Default Z6+Vitaras Rebuild Q's (HELP!)

So I had Vitara pistons and FJ rods installed in my Z6 by a local shop, and wouldn't you know, with the head at TDC, the crank was at 1:00. Didn't learn this until after the car smoked like a freight train.

So I've ordered new pistons, rings, bearings.

Do I still need to re-do my ring end gap and plastigage the bearings?

If so, what numbers are you guys coming up with?

Thank you HT!

anytime you build an engine even if the old one only had a few miles you should check all the clearances again. you should also rehone.

ring gap is a is calculated from bore size and a conversion factor based on how much power/boost you are going to run through the motor.

bore in inches x anywhere from .0045 up to around .0065. your second ring should be gapped a little larger than the top ring, by multiplying the bore by .0005 more than the top ring.

just for example, i did a vitara motor a few years ago (super fun setup by the way).

75.5mm bore. piston to wall i had set at .0035. top ring was gapped at .017 and second ring was .019. the setup ran between 15 and 20 psi and was putting out just about 300hp.

bearings should be between .0014 and .0018. i usually set my bearing sizes at the top end of the factory specs right below service limit

Well long story short, we left the motor in the car and pulled the pan, popped the pistons out the top of the block and inspected them. #1 and #2 actually had cracks in them (I'm assuming from the high heat of running the mechanical timing off like that).

So the motor is still in the car, with all 4 rods and pistons removed.

I'm also running 75.5mm pistons. Looking to get somewhere between 350 and 400whp with no more than 20psi on pump.

We also did a hone with a hand drill just to clean up the bores a little.

So that's my situation, as shitty as it is
The setup maybe had 200 miles before it started smoking
