Bad, just because you have waterflowing all the time doesnt mean it will make it cooler. Water needs time to transfer the heat away. Why do you think the aftermarket thermostats open later? so they can have time to transfer more heat.

i have heard people say that your rad can get saturated with heat and will no longer cool. i am sure this will not happen on the interstate but could happen in traffic. (i guess)

I removed it when I was running turbo in my civic - I found it allowed me to do lots of 5th gear boosting without the water temp gauge moving much, compared to when it was installed. Weather is hot and humid here 24/7, so maybe that has something to do with it..

my personal experience has been that my car has run cooler without it. With it, the datalogs show the car running more or less a consistant 200 degrees. But without it cruizing has been 170-180s in the summer and in the winter temps stay at 150. The only down fall is that the car takes a bit longer to warm up. No biggy for me though.

Without a thermostat in the cooling system more than likely the car will have a hard time reaching operating temperature out on the highway...and if it doesnt reach operating temperature then the car runs in open loop and never sees closed loop....when a car is in open loop it runs rich...you'll get poor gas mileage on the highway when this happens
If you are unsure of what open and closed loop is this should help ya out: When you first go out in the morning and start your car, the ECU is in open loop bc the operating temperature(coolant temperature) isnt up high enough. Once operating temperature is met then the ECU enters closed loop and it reads the O2 sensor to make proper changes to fuel trim.
If you get stuck somewhere when your car overheats and its bc of a thermostat stuck closed....pull it out so coolant is allowed to flow to the radiator

hit the nail on the head! if water has no time to absorb the heat, so the engine may actually run a tad hotter after its warmed up a bit!

Some good points here, yes the car will run in open loop and could possibly trigger a check engine light. The more important factor though is heat transfer. Sure, when your driving that coolant will be really cool according to your water temp guage and thats becuase it is not absorbing much heat. the coolant is moving so fast it also doesnt have enough time to cool the cylinder walls and ultimitely what does hotter cylinder temps mean?......DETONATION...yep this is a very likely situation. But the fact is your cylinders will not be cooled properly and could lead to other catastrophies such as excessive blow by or holes in your pistons! Enough said, either use a damn thermostat or buy a blocker plate that has holes to restrict the flow!
