you can pickup a set of bigger injectors on here from around 260- 320 depending on brand and size you want.
btw what shop if you do not mind disclosing (I am just curious, since I am somewhat close).
edit: I would never buy an ems personally, so I have no clue on their pricing... I am one of the socketed ecu/ rom editor supporters. (not to say that I would not if I had the extra money, but I dont).

not on just a motor it wont...
seriously I would tell them you want a for real breakdown on paper (which you should compare prices to online), not some ballpark round about thing your being told. cause if your not paying attention your gonna pickup a little here and there, and you get a non sleeved el cheapo rebuild you payed through the nose for.
if they are talking first rate products and you can tell they know their **** for real ( and they give you a breakdown in detail)... full valvetrain, headwork, intake manifold/ tb, injectors, sleeves, forged pistons/ rods, new bearings, assembled, etc. and ems installed/ running ready to go... full deal no bs cutting corners... 7k is a decently realistic number (but on the high side still).
my thoughts being you wanna make sure your paying someone for the cream of the crop work and end product... not a chrome plated 7 thousand dollar turd.
trust is a big thing, dont be quick to let anyone earn it completely. sorry if I sound like I am being parental... 7 thousand is no chump change to be thrown around when you are unsure (which you seem to be).

Re: you guys think my mechanic charge too much??? (twkdCD595)
I had a friend roll up to RLZ in Concord, NC, and drop half that for the engine alone. He provided an LS short block, and it was sleeved, forged pistons/rods, ACL bearings, Honda water and oil pumps, all machining, and assembly. Also included in that price was purchasing a B16 head, Ferrera valves and misc, machining and assembly.
While all the parts prices passed to him were VERY fair, comparable or within a few dollars of "internet hookup" prices, I wouldn't begrudge the shop a small percentage over the parts cost... shops cost a lot of money to operate, and most of the time the labor charge alone merely pays the bills without turning any profit. Post up an itemized bill/estimate if you can, and I'll add my experienced $0.02 in the fray.
I worked a number of years as a regular wrench, then service writer, and impromptu shop foreman when the boss was on vacation or felt like laying out of work. As much as I'm a rabid fan of DIY and learning, I'm also a pretty fair and unbiased judge of what it's worth a shop to do work for you. I'm worried some of the bright but younger guys here might shoot down a fair price, confusing what they can do at a cutrate price for themselves or for their friends out of love, where a shop has to feed itself, it's employees and their families. Maybe I'm jumping to a conclusion when I say that, I'm not trying to point a finger at anyone in particular.

Honda-tech is lowballer central...a fully built motor when you buy everything outright is alot of money. Labor isn't cheap either...We're not talking about taking a year to lowball someone on every used part for your buildup.

A lot depends on what parts he uses. A short block built with the VERY BEST parts can run $3500. A good cylinder head job can be $1500. When you talk Engine management, clutches, flywheels, injectors plus installation and tuning could run $7000.
Or he could use junk parts and do a $3500 job.
DON'T do anything without a written proposal and don't pay more than $1000 down and then make payments when he accomplishes certain parts of the build. Also set a date that he guarantees the job to be done or you get to pay him less.

Earl, I use junk parts and I don't have $3500 in my whole car.

I am not saying its not worth the money, I am just saying get your moneys worth.
my opinion, no lowballing involved. be a smart consumer not a lowballer.

Portflow Head : $900
Valvetrain\Valves: $600
Sleeves: $1000
Machining: $500
Pistons\Rods: $900-1300
Miscellaneous Parts: $500
R&R: $800 (Which is less than Book)
Engine Assembly: $800
So were at....$6400 and I didn't put an EMS on there...
So Add Another $1150...$7550...I would say the guy is giving you a good seal if the work is good.

dude I think you just got bent over. I would have him list all spec and match the parts prices. You only diff will be labor. The better the mech the more labor cost to pay.
