Default Yes or no to clipped turbo

I have a stock td04 turbo on my srt4. I know it not a honda but I am looking for opinions on something. I can get the stock turbo and exhaust manifold ported for 300 bucks. Another company sells the same setup but the turbo is clipped and its like 500.. I know it gives a little more lag but thats not a problem. Do you think its worth it to get the clipped one. Can somebody give me any reasons not to get it clipped. I have searched yahoo ect and it seems 50 50 yes and no..

This is what the company with ported not clipped setup told me and the other company said hes an idiot.
"As far as how much boost you can run, we've seen 23-24 psi with safe, but increasing EGT's. Anything above that and you are pushing past some boundries. As far as what the clipping goes, all it does with our SRTs is lowers egt's when boosting out of the effeciency of the turbo. What I mean by this is if you're making ~300 hp @ 20psi (as you stated above) and your EGT's are 'safe', by clipping the turbo you reduce it's efficency by allowing more exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine wheel. This lowers EGT's but at 20psi, you won't be making 300HP anymore, you'd be making less. You then have to turn up the boost in order to make the same hp again. It's a trade off and in your situation, I think that you would see more from portwork than a clipped turbo. IMO"

down waste your money on the stock turbo dude. no mater what you do to it its still way to small. save up 1700 and buy an AGP 50 trim kit.

Best place to look would be some DSM forums, they used to use a LOT of clipped turbos. I dont know how long you've been on here, but almost everyone uses gluttonously oversized turbine wheels and housings, so clipping isn't realy done a lot. You can find people on here running Stage V turbine wheels with .63 A/R housings at 350 WHP feeling the need to move up to a .82 A/R P-trim setup, so there usually isn't a whole lot of moderation going on

I would but its 1700 for the turbo then injectors , and new Ic, fuel manage.
It ends up being like 2500 bucks maybe more.

Thanks boosted Ill look over there...

With all the advances in turbine wheel design in the last 10 years clipping a turbine is old news, IMO.

so what are you gonna do after you clip/port the stock turbo? run it off stock engine management and fuel system?

you'll make more power keeping the stock turbo and buying some fuel management/boltons then you will with "upgrading" the stock turbo.

No i have good enough ones for the stock setup but with the bigger turbo you need bigger injectors and like I said a new IC. I made 310hp and 360 tq on the stock turbo which is pretty good but just want a little more. Thanks for you input guys.Hoping to get a honda and build something crazy soon.

No spray. This graph shows 307 that was at 20psi I made more on other dynos but we lowered the boost from 22 psi cause of some crap he said that made since at the time.
