It will work great..the only problem is you dont wanna use that on the street unless you have a filter. Get a rock up there and your turbo wont like you in the morning.

I don't think I would connect it directly to the turbo inlet (whether it was meant to or not)...I'd just route it up to the filter.

Re: Yay or nay...Cold air ducts for turbo...will it work? (MiraiZ)
i was thinking that same exact thing... i dont like having the filter right behind the radiator fan.. that thing gets really hot.
ive seen ppl actually fab up a cold air extension for those with filters on the passenger side of the turbo. the filter is behind the bumper.
id think any cold air would be great... just worried about when it rains though.. since NA can get hydrolock i can only imagine a turbo would be like a vacuum.
if thats your car... nice canyards...

I like bugs and rocks in my engine. Its just like Hulk, damage pisses it off and makes it that much faster
Im going to sandwhich some fleece between two pieces of screen, so itll be an effective filter. at the track, just a screen to keep the big nasty bugs out.

My contention is this:
Normal Setup
Engine bay air (hot)------->compressor---(hotter air)--->Intercooler----->(cooler air)---->intake
CAI setup
Ambient air (cool)------->compressor---(warm air)---->intercooler---->(cold air)----> intake

well, like I mentioned twice earlier...I wouldn't connect it directly to the turbo (lack of filter; lack of weather protection)...
The ideal of having some kind of box or shielding is nice!
EDIT: I suppose you can even use the AEM bypass valve if you wanted it directly connected, but it still doesn't solve the filtering problem

When it rains outside, if i take a boost run, pull over, and pop the hood, the IC pipeset going into the intake manifold has condensation on it..
Who needs a cold air intake, when your intercooler works so damn well!
But hey, that intake things looks pretty sweet, if nothing else.

Its not mine...its being sold on Yahoo J for like $90. The duct is originally for brake ducting, but it can be applied to anything..

Re: Yay or nay...Cold air ducts for turbo...will it work? (MiraiZ)
i think this is a great idea. maybe if you could fit a K&N drop in at the mouth for the filter and stick a bypass on there to keep the water out...... ill have to hit the drawing board.

Re: Yay or nay...Cold air ducts for turbo...will it work? (sedan racer)
I don't think any water is going to travel two feet in and up that pipe to affect your filter. Once it hits the pipe at the bend, it is going to roll back out, or just keep building up enough until it runs back out. There isn't anything sucking the water to the filter through that piece of pipe, unless of course you have it directly mounted to your turbo compressor.
