WTF! why are hondas so expensive to build
the idiots at summit always send me the catalogs for v8's even after i requested the import one 3 times. i have to have some thing to read while on the craper so i am looking through the engine build parts. i notice the prices are cheaper for v8's then our 4 bangers. WTF is up with this. decent pistons cost 800 for 8. it will cost me 500 for my sohc. rods you can find 8 for about 300, for us about 375-450+. A single cam that supports 8 cylinders cost 300 + or -. my sohc is 300 and for a dohc about 800. can anyone help me under stand this? i am about to sell my car and get a 5.0 and strap 150hp shot of NOS and proly run 12's

its pretty simple concept. They think this way. The more demand of a honda product the higher price goes and people are willing to pay for it. It just that simple. It backwards industry. ITs not like the domestic guys that you cna just buy a head off the shelf that is ported cast adn ready to go. there is so much demand in v8 the prices are so low. Its something we cant control.

More likely because the parts for those V8s have been developed over the past 40-50 years with virtually no changes. Right now Imports are new and hot - so we pay a premium for the fact that we're trendy, and we pay a further premium to cover the R&D that it's taking all these companies to push into a new market and build up the designs and technology it takes to do this right. Sucks to be us. But it's better than the alternative of not having anyone develop anything for our engines and having to pay for custom parts every time we do something.

The Chevy 350 has been out and in production for how many years?
...and the B series honda?
...and the B series honda?
i wanted to buy an apc front mesh grill to protect my ic and hide it a bit. for the import revoultion car show they were being sold for about 100, i think a little more. this price was every where. i went back home to louisiana and i found them for 30 bucks at discount auto parts. i think every one is just hiking up the prices because this is the new fad. my gf sister is 14 and she said she cant wait till she can drive so she can "*****" out a honda. i do have at feeling with the market like it is today the import industry is going to fall out and priced are going to drop. i just wish it will happen soon, i am at 130k on my sohc and i am noticing more blow by.

What are the tolerances on these parts? Sure they might be cheap but if they ship 8 rods or 8 pistons and they're off of each other by 20 ounces, it sure does make it pointless to buy aftermarket. I'm pretty sure they're decent parts, but unlike American Motors, our motor strives on perfection, perfection takes additional research and development and testing, which in turn rises the cost. So they have to charge more. And also, there is high demand, when the demand is high, so are the prices. Simple economics.

They charge what the market will bear. People are willing to pay those prices so they charge that much. No way in hell domestic owners will pay that.

The 5.0 has been out for years. It was known as the 302 before the fancy 5.0 moniker came out. It's a windsor style engine, similar to the 351 that's been around since the 60s. I really get pissed when I think that I can get a fully built 350 with forged piston/rods/crank, ported heads, cam, and a grip of other stuff for the same price of a Type R swap. I'm more into DSM's though, but I feel your pain.

The ricers are the ones that are going to lower the prices for us. As more products get purchased, the more $ go down.

Re: WTF! why are hondas so expensive to build (turboex)
maybe if all of us import nuts would all get together and create a "union" of sorts, where we would all ban together and NOT buy any honda performance parts for like 2 months straight- then perhaps some places would get overstocked and prices would come down. just a thought
