WRX Td04 vs DSM 14b
I'm trying to decide on which one to go with. I can get both of them for really cheap so cost doesn't matter on them. Reason I'm trying to decide on those two is because I'm only gonna be running 6.5-7lbs of boost, so I don't need a big T3/T4 or any of that.
But what are some of your opinions on these 2 turbos?

Re: WRX Td04 vs DSM 14b (rjardy)
Yeah I know the t3/t4 would be better then either of those, but it seems like such a waste to get one and only boost it to 7psi.

I would say that is entirely up to you , both spool extremely fast so i guess this would just be preference...either you want the TD04 or the older 14G.

wtf, he said he wasnt getting a t3/t4 so why do you guys keep talking about them?
anyways, a 14b will pull harder but spool up later, and the td04 will spool up quicker but wont hit as hard.

Re: (Tad)
Unless you have a manifold in hand to fit those two turbos, it will be cheaper and easier to run a straight T3 - which is also a hair bigger than either of the selections you are currently thinking of.

Re: (J. Davis)
Off the shelf, T3 manifold = $300-500
CX/HF Manifold w/adapter plate = $100-150
IMHO, for low boost applications, the CX/HF manifold will work fine. With a little porting, it'll flow enough for 200whp easy.
I'd take the 14B over the smaller WRX turbo, simply because it's bigger.

Re: (98CTRCoupe)
i saygo with the tdo4 dsm it has such a great spool up. i have it in my 1.5 dx motor, first there is no lag and it blows off at realy low rpms its frekin fun. it gives more than enough power at 6 to 7. i dont know why everyone wants the "t3/t4" so much. but here is a pic of the turbo, small but powerfull....

Re: (Bongnak)
I have a TD04L-13T on my low compression set-up and its almost impossible to even find a place in the rpm band that it has lag without stalling the car !!!
For 7psi the smaller turbo is the best bet, if you wanna run 8+ I'd say the TD05H-14.
Both the TD05H and T3 garrett are going to be easier to create an adaptor plate for, but there is a guy on HMT.com named "BMC racing" sold me my plate for $40.
The TD04L-13T ( wrx turbo ) makes 14psi on a DOHC 2.0L, I'd say its going to make enough air to support 7psi on a honda ( sohc I'm thinking ).
I have a T3 .60/.63 60-trim already to bolt to my civic, but I've having a hard time with the thought of loosing instant boost in any gear at any RPM. BTW my car is not only low compression, but it uses all stock exhust AND only a 2 1/4'' RIGHT ANGLED downpipe.

Re: (89dxhunchback)
Well my friend is starting up a website and he does custom stuff and needed some pics for it. So I'm paying cost for it to be made, which was like 80 bucks, so I can get a plate made to fit either one of them.
My brother is upgrading his 1G Talon to a 16g so I can either get that from him or my friend is upgrading his WRX to a STI turbo so I can get the Td04 from him for cheap.
the Td04 is sounding real nice w/ no turbo lag and I figure that one would be in alot better condition then the older 14b.
Any other opinions on either turbo?
Oh Yeah and I forgot to mention this is setup is going on my h23 Prelude

Then you'd want the 14b. Anything smaller will choke on that 2.3L.

Re: (Taikonaut)
you would also have to consider the condtitions of the turbo, the 14b might need a rebuild, since its been a very long time if its never been rebuilt. but if its all good then the 14b would be a go.

Re: (integrx)
In the case of a H23 ( I was thinking we were talking about a 1.6L SOHC motor !!! ) I'd say use the 14B FOR SURE !! The WRX is going to choke the motor, the compressor can keep up, but the turbine side won't...
Big difference between a Sohc 1.6L and a DOHC 2.3L !!!
I'd sat jack your bros 16G !!! I drove a SRT saturday and it has no turbo lag either ( 2.4L DOHC ) and it comes with a B16G from the factory.
