Default would it be ok to tap my pan at the shorter area of the pan??

due to the clearance of my t3/t04e and downpipe i was wondering if it would be ok to tap my pan at the short/thin area of the pan?? the area towards the passenger side of the car? this would really shorten my line and ensure proper drainage.

thanks and just trying to be thorough.
