wondering what i should do to upgrade my turbo system.
i purchased a 96 accord about 5 mo. ago that has a stock h22 turbo. i really didnt think id have to mess with it, and ive always been an all motor guy until i got this, ive always been infatuated with turbos. ive been researching on this site and found that my turbo is one of those ebay t3/t4's with an xs power intercooler. from what ive been reading this isnt the most reliable setup. i would like to put on a better turbo, but not mess with anything not bolting up or retuning. it only has 2.5 in downpipe, aem ems, and 750 injectors with a walbro pump, so really i just want to replace the turbo with something similar, but reliable. and i dont really know if the intercooler is junk or not. any suggestions....p.s. i dont have a lot of money!

buy a name brand t3/t4.. Im pretty sure you can get one for like 550 or something like that, but im not entirely sure. I don tknow about th eintercoolers either, but as long as it doesnt leak it should be alright, but that doesnt mean it wont heatsoak.. Only way to tell is to get on the dyno and do a few consecutive runs and see if you start losing power, or taking it on the street and seeing if it feels slower.. If it does, you need a new intercooler because its getting too heatsoaked.

Re: (numbnuts22715)
it feels choppy on the street....the boost consistenly sits at 8psi but the car feels like power cuts in and out sometimes from 4-6k rpms, and it feels like it sorta dies out after that. not too many reputable tuners down here in sw florida (i dont think there are any shops around here). will a garrett unit bolt up the same as the "x" brand?

xs intercoler is just as good as brand name ones turbo is cheaper[chinese] but if it aint leakin or not spoolin it should be good unless it takes a crap i wouldnt changet loos off power might be from poor tunning unless u have a leak just retune at higher psi

Re: (rsracer)
the only thing im worried about with the turbo is that everyone on here says the clock is ticking with the ebay turbo....i really dont wanna have the thing take a dump on my when i least expect it. i want a turbo that can take the occasional abuse, but i dont have to worry about it failing at any given time.

Re: (rsracer)
is there anything else i need to upgrade...it looks like the i/c piping is about 2-2.25in piping, the downpipe and exhaust are 2.5, stock IM and throttle body, and stock motor. does anyone think that 300whp is possible with this setup, or will more parts have to be upgraded....on a good note, the engine doesnt lose any oil.

do a compresion test and if u get the right numbers yeah, igot a b18b1 165k on the motor scored 190-200psi per piston estimated psi 199[thats when the car was new]

Re: (philafelman)
get a bigger brand name turbo and change nothing else.
Once the new turbo is fine, then drive the car nice and easy to an AEM tuner and have them tune.
Make sure the IC is bar and plate and make sure the IC piping is 2.5
Upgrade ur DP to 3inch and its free power and quicker spools.
All these thing together will add up toa realible car, the mani looks fine, its not an Ebay special.
