Default will an ecu tuned for a y8 work on a y7, all else equal..?

i found a seller who has a t3 with rc 440s tuned on a d16y8 from a 96 ex tuned for 200 whp on hondata. my question is: will the tuned ECU work on my 99 d16y7 without a problem if i run his turbo set up? I want to know if i will run into problems up top with vtec... please explain why or why not...

i posted this on td16.com, no helpful responses

Does your car have vtec? /Thread

The car would be tuned for a vtec crossover, and the low cam fuel maps past that point would pretty much get no attention. Don't risk it, you can use the ecu but get it retuned.. don't use his program.

Apples to orangutans tunes, batman.

It'd probably be a good basemap to drive like a grandmother to a tuner on, though. If you don't understand that driving like a grandmother means no boosty-boosty then please post pics of the carnage so that I can laugh at you.

i'm not sure how the obd1 iacv pins will react when its not there since the y7 uses a 3 wire iacv

Oh, yeah, that.

I ended up disabling the IACV entirely on the one and only Y7 I tuned. I forget if the P06 we tuned on was idle surging out of the box, or if that only started after I tried jiggling around pins. Either way, I found a combo of pins that fooled the ECU into thinking the IACV was hooked up, even though it didn't do anything as it was wired but stay shut all the time. I set the idle with throttle stop and air bleed, you couldn't tell it from stock.
