wierd turbo sound
hi,
i'm sorta in the middle of install my turbo. I have a F-Max setup for my 01 prelude. So far i have the whole thing setup except the fuel system. So for the time being the turbo isn't connected to the intake manifold. It just expels air out of the intercooler. I'm using my old K&N air filter setup until the weekend. Question though... i have this weird noise when i go WOT from idle, can't describe it really. It sounds like a mix between a screech and like high pressure gas(exhaust?) flowing.... Then again, from reading posts, i'm a little worried cause the symptoms kinda sound also like detonation, but i can't see why that would be the case... Please help!!!

You should connect your all your pipe together. You're overeving the turbo.

Re: wierd turbo sound (T25 civic)
does it sound like the turbo is winding down? because when i get on it sometimes to 8k, and just put it in neutral and brake, i hear the turbo winding down. does this mean i over revved it? i have a d16y8 with the greddy 15g turbo. thanks

Re: wierd turbo sound (swrdply400mrelay)
i hear that i may have over-revved the turbo... can i just drive it slowly to avoid that? Since i already have the screeching sound, what did i break, and more importantly, how much is it to fix... can i just remove the wastegate spring, and therefore have the wastegate open all the time... will it work like that.

Re: wierd turbo sound (ketchup_gsr)
Do i need a rebuild? The symptoms i have are.... it screeches when i suddenly accelerate... but after 2.5k rpm it has that neat turbo suction sound.... and is fine all the way to 5k... haven't dared to go higher.

Re: wierd turbo sound (b18onboost)
well i haven't leaked oil yet, but there is still the screeching sound when spooling up... till like 2krpm. After that's it's nice. Odd thing is, i thought there would be some play with the compressor or turbine wheels.... nope... have no idea what's wrong...

Anyone else, cause its really smoking at idle, and also after any type of acceleration then let off and hit the gas it smokes really bad. I'm trying to get my hands on another t25 turbo to switch cause I know its not my car cause my compression test turned up perfect. I have another post I started asking this. It has more information in it.
