Default Wide band O2 location

Ok, so I was wondering about my wide band O2 location. I usually put it 6 to 12" post turbo because that's what i've been told and it seems that everyone does it. But my question is why? Also if lets say the car, stock... had the O2 located directly in the header or exhaust manifold, would it be wrong to place the sensor in the collector of the turbo manifold pre turbo? If so, then why?

TIA!
Shane

IMO anywhere in the down pipe or nothing farther back than the fire wall is fine. Most people recommend putting it close to front of exhaust do to having a catalytic converter or anything stopping flow of the exhaust. and anything restrictive will not allow the wideband to read right. I've seen tuners already use the exhaust sniffer thing to tune. and that gets attached to the rear of the exhaust. so really if you have a free flowing exhaust you will be fine with any placement.

yeah, my exhaust is going to be a hood exit exhaust so there really won't be THAT much pipe at all.. So I was thinking about putting the O2 in the collector of the manifold (topmount)

If you put it in the collector I think that will burn your o2 sensor out faster and prob get an incorrect reading thats why it recommends 6-12 inches
