Default why wont the oil stay in my catchcan??

after 2 passes at the track last night, i go to empty my catchcan. i found it to only have maybe a shotglass of oil in it, at best. the problem is that oil is blowing out of the breather on my catchcan and all over my engine bay. i even took a rag and wrapped it around the outside of the breather and it still blows all over, but the can itself stays pretty much empty. whats going on im tired of getting oil over everything.

catchcan is a z10 setup drawing from the back of the block. i have it mounted right next to the battery on the firewall. motor info - compression is 197-200 dead on and leakdown is 10-12%. 84x89 sleeved vtec

I had the same problems with a moroso can hooked to the back of the block. If you hook it up to just the valve cover you will be ok from what i've seen.

Mine would only start puking over 400-450whp at the track. I got tired of being "that guy" oiling things down so I said screw it and went with the T1 can. Haven't spilt a drop since. I've got two ports going to the back of the block and 3 on the valve cover.

My homemade catchcan with steel wool as baffling never puked anything out. Last time out with 475hp it still stayed in the can. The lines run to the back of the block and the can is in the same location as yours. I dont know but is the z10 can baffled?

it's like a siphon effect especially if the lines are small. Once it draws up it keeps going. kinda like sucking gas out a car.

that's why the 10an+ lines are good.

Think about if you have a coffee straw. it's easy to suck the coffee
VS
A straw that was a inch in diameter, makes it more difficult.

Also baffling. when i had my endyn, same as the Z10 it puked everywhere. So bafling and size makes the difference.

This also happens to my bros 400whp LS with his endyn catch can. So to prevent that from happening all you have to do is put bigger lines? I told him to tap double lines to his valve cover to see if that works.

bigger lines would be better but a baffle would be good as well

i think the lines im using are 3/4 inch.

what if i kinda blocked off the opening from the can to the breather filter a little bit, making a smaller area for the oil to go through?

ok so im halfway through welding up another catchcan. its going to be about 7" tall, by 5" long by 3.5" wide. the inlets will be on one side, and im going to seperate the breather filter and the inlets with a baffle. i had some gutter guard that i saw people using but i threw it out. i guess currently im thinking of just drilling a bunch of little holes in another piece of the sheetmetal and using that. think it will work?

you could simply make the box, where your holes will be section that off deflecting any oil down. Kinda like a small box within a big box.

bad paint shop but i think you get the point. or you can put a piece o sheet metal over the filters with enough space to vent

Think about that straw again. If you take a wet straw, blow hard into it, the drops inside will spew out. Add baffling and pack it with some steel wool, then you might find most of your problems are solved.

I think one main issue is that your lower lines are catching some windage, which is basicly oil mist. It will condense on the 1st obstruction, which is currently your filter. Blow air behind it, and the condensed oil spews out. The baffle/steel wool will help condense it before it gets that far.
