Why Full Race has been closed lately
we had our senior mechanical engineering design project due at school. Check out some pics
what the truck looked like last thursday night.
the rest of the chassis will be done shortly, those pics are pretty wild.

oh man the rear looks good now... hey could you explain auto center to me a little more on a link? i know its the relation between the anit squat/rise properties of it but how is it messured and or calculated? i have been just tryin to figure out all the differnt things that go into a link.. been reading alot understand alot but havnt figured that one out for sure yet.. have a few ideas but just not sure on it... thanks and the truck looks sick as all hell cant wait to see pics of it finished. laters

i think you mean the instant center? The instantaneous center is the idea that if you connect an imaginary line from the lower control arm to the upper control arm, that intersection will dictate how the car behaves when the gas is pressed. THe idea fo ra neutral handling car is to have the instant center point at the center of gravity of the vehicle. in our case, we didnt want anti squat (many road race cars want that) we wanted squat. When we are heading towards a series of whoops or a big *** bumpjump i am gonna floor it, the truck will squat and we will go fly over it. i can go farther into tdetail in PM if you want, i have a lot of great links to look at. We put our IC wayyyyyyy in front of the CG, right now it points at the crank pully giving us a lot of squat. some people put it so far forwards that its in front of the truck by 10 feet. thats why we have a huge range of adjustment
the cage work is coming along pretty abdass now too. ill take some more pics this weekend

Re: Why Full Race has been closed lately (rjardy)
thanks for the compliments guys!! we literally havent gone to bed before 4 AM for the past 3 weeks, and i havent had more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep in about a month. That avatar of mine is no joke, usually one person or another has passed out and fallen asleep in the front of the shop at one point or another.
rob -- the rear end will do 32" clean. however we are strapping and bumping it down to do 26, no need for the extra 6", that just beats up the driveshaft
boosting snail -- if you liked our rocket vids u will like the new ones we are gonna make, soon. however these are requiring a little more fabrication
muckman -- our professors dont really know anythign about us. All they know is that everytime there is a project to be done, our projects are really really sick. I told one professor about the shop and i dont think he believes me, so i usually just keep quiet. most of the other students we go to school with dont know anything about us either.
ab16 the shop is open again if you need anything just give us a call.

Geoff...
What are most other students going to submit for this project? Not very often you get to drive your project to school.

yeah i ment instant center sorry it was just late last night haha i figured it was where the uppers and lowers line of actions crossed at static ride hight but wasnt sure 100% and didnt wanna bring up lower links 101 from the dead just to ask that haha if you have time go a head an PM me those links you have... i will prolly have more questions for you in teh future mainly cause my buddy and i finally got a truck for a project... been reading for about 6 months on differnt stuff and just tossing around full cage designs and link designs... thought about arms but just havnt really thought them out yet.. just too much going on with them.. my only problem is i have no formal schooling on this but its pretty easy to figure out what is goign on and how to adjust it. thanks for the help.. laters

cool ill try to get some of those links together tonite. i got a lot of stuff to catch up on today.
As far as coming up with designs, we dont learn much that can be applied to the trucks in school, we learn more about heat transfer and fluid flow than anything else. If you are looking to build a truck, find pictures of a truck that you know is built well, and start to start at the pics all the time. Analyze it, and all along the way ask yourself why something was done one way or the other. The idea of triangulation and having all tubes meet at "nodes" is a very important one. I will elaborate more with this once i get a few pics up.

Re: ouch (FFgeoff)
Looks awesome. I agree with Gravy, you guys must never get sleep. Can't wait to see pics and vids from this project. I can't believe you said no one in your classes know what you do. Don't they go to the website, I mean it is on the side of the truck.

Re: ouch (FFgeoff)
front tube frame
old lower arm
FEA on the lower brackets
FEA on the lower brackets and subframe (unbraced)....chromoly is strong
i tried to do some FEA (ccsmos on solidworks) on the entire front suspension assembly, but the comps at school couldnt handle it....they all froze up...too many nodes i guess at one point i had about 10 comps running the same analysis at the same time and none of them would do it
