Why am I getting a grinding sound when I get on it
Got a 14b on a d16 w/12-1 fmu and pump. Car runs great until I get on it and get past 5k rpm's or s. I was told it wasnt detenation. It sounds like a consistant really fast metal tapping noise. Any ideas? Thanx

Check if there's any play in the compressor shaft, of course when the car's off.

How much boost and what compression? It does sound like denotation to me. Pull #1 plug out and check what color it is. You want it to be a nice dark brown or blackish. That indicates a rich condition. If its white or very clean then you dont have enough fuel, too much timing or not enough octane.

Compressors got like no play in it, Runs fine when not on it hard so doubt theres a bent valve.
I havent timed it yet (will Sat.) so that might be it, it just doesnt sound like detenation. Its like something rubbing on something. I was old to time it at 12-14+ and bring it 1 degree - per each 2 psi I have it at.
Im around 8-9 psi.

I also get alot of back fire before I get into another gear. After I let go of the gas each gear.
