Why am I building boost with my mbc turned all the way down???
I feel really retarded. i just set up my neptune rtp for a stock configuration to get my base map down. which was a p75 ecu on a p28 map. i turned my hallman boost controller completely off and its still building 4-5 psi of boost. is it the mbc? do these things have a stock psi level of 4-5psi? i am just wanting to drive on this setup until i am done learning the whole tuning process. my setup is:
d16y8
cp pistons
eagle rods
edelbrock turbo kit
880cc injectors
omni 4 bar map sensor
is it safe to run that stock map on my setup? the car is running 10x better than when it was at 15psi on my previously tuned map. my idle was smooth and my rpm's were smooth as well. im actually waiting on a wideband before i tune anything else. please feel free to flame if you must. thanks

Even with the mbc turned down you will still get whatever boost the wastegate spring is set at. This is because the MBC just prevents the wastegate from seeing boost, up until a certain boost level. If you turn the MBC all the way down, the wastegate just sees whatever boost you are producing and acts accordingly. if you want 0 boost, and have an external WG, just pull the spring, if you have internal, unhook the linkage that goes to the flapper.
I wouldnt run the stock ECU map if you are planning to make any boost at all, its a good way to fry things, expensive things.
And yeah, wideband is a must for tuning.

Your running waste gate pressure.
You cannot run lower boost than your WG spring.

I'm just toying with the idea of going turbo and no very little, but could you remove your spring/replace with something super low?

just take it out, or unhook the flapper, like said up above.
what's the point of haveing a turbo, if you can't use it though?

alright thanks everyone. i figured it was a silly question. not sure why i didnt think of that one.
im looking to tune it as close to perfect before i do any boost. i have had a couple base maps that were not perfect and its extremely disappointing when you get a nasty idle or misfires due to the fuel mixture going whack. plus with an open wastegate they say you can get 3-5mpg better than over stock...
