My friends car did the same thing. It had a racing clutch and it would grind. He put another clutch in since he was going to pull the turbo setup off and sell it anyway. It didn't grind anymore. Everything else was the same. Flywheel, etc. We never could figure out why

Sometimes random gear grinds come from something being misaligned when the tranny was put back on. Was it a smooth installation, or did you have to use a hammer and the force of God to fit the tranny back on?

How stiff is the pedal? Ive known people who bitch about how there car grinds 3rd with a new clutch and when I drove it nothing happened. I believe it is because you can hit third hard and fast and when the clutch is stiff some people just lip leg it and dont get it in all the way before they gear tries to catch. Same thing with short shifters. Just a thought.

The pedal feels exactly the same after installing the clutch and it is still light.
I do have a short shifter and don't know if it is the reason.
