cus its more jdm!

And i bet when you start doing some math a 50mm gate would have more usable space than two smaller ones also easier to control most likely? I'm not sure.

But at the same time i'm seriously considering putting my two 35mm tial knockoffs on my ram-horn i built. I've been running one 35mm off of the wastegate hole on the turbine housing with limited success and i have two so why not; if it doesn't work i'll rethink it

2 38mm=9068.32mm^2
1 HKS 60mm=11304mm^2
and just for reference a 76 mm gate=18136.64mm^2
thats why, area is a square function, it isn't direct addition, beyond that why plumb in an extra gate unless boost creep is a problem

2 38mm gates is still gonna save you more money then buying a hks or turbonetics 50mm. and will work better than 1 38... i was thinking about putting another tial 40mm on my car

you dont use the entire surface area of the valve to loose exhaust gasses; a lot of the valve is shorouded

I'd take 1 big gate over 2 smaller ones any day. Twice the chance of failure with 2 of them. Diaphams could tear/leak, valves stick, lines come loose, etc. Plus, with 1 HKS GT gate, you're getting a much better quality piece than a tial 38.

i think some would argue the opposite; half the chance of failure; if one gate dies the other opens

but in this case, they arne't

the SSAC wastegates are very nice pieces. have had more tials fail than them in my expierence. most ppl say to take them apart and check all the bolts...but, i've only had one with a loose BOLT (no s on that) and it was on the outside, so no big deal even if i hadn't checked

i'll be running one of hte 60's on my next setup, just to see if they fall in line wiht the smaller gates in quality

Better quality than Tial? Hmm... I know HKS parts are nice, but I don't think its accurate to say "better" quality than Tial...

maybe you just mean the Tial 38mm gates, the valve is "not intended for use w/ race gas"

Have you seen and worked with the new HKS GT gate? It's by far the best quality wastegate i've ever seen. I think the fact that the 38mm valve is not intended for use with race gas is significant in there being a quality difference between the two. Do you not?

I thought you could swap out valves for use with race gas?

EDIT: just checked and it looks like they do have different valves for leaded/unleaded.

If both wastegates are necessary to control boost safely, then even if one unit fails, the boost will creep regardless.

****, you will instantly have twice as much boost, if one of the gates wasnt opening.

if you have 2 wastegates that open at 10 psi and only one opens you still will have 10 psi

its not like you would have one with a5 psi spring and another witha 5 psi spring and you would get 10 psi...think about it

I've ran a Tial 40mm gate for 4 years. It's seen plenty of leaded fuel past it and I've never had an issue. It will hold .9 bar spring pressure on a T67 no problem, and it held 32 PSI on a GT2871R.

I've never messed with the HKS gate because of the cost and the fact my Tial has never let me down.

i have the race valve on my wg, it really wasn't that much different in terms of price. Its just that it has to be ordered rather than shipping instantly if the place as it in stock.

If you want to compair usable surface area, it's the not bottom surface of the valve. Air can't pass through a valve - it moves past it's perimeter. You take the circumference multiplied by maximum lift. Thats the benifit you get from larger valves in a head - for the same lift, it has more area around the lip for the air to pass.

not if your turbo outflows one of the two specified gates.
