Re: who using a A/R.49 turbine housings (DLB1994)
I've got an 0.48... it sucks the big one. I'd rather wait a little longer for boost to come up; this is just too restrictive at the top end. I feel like my car could be making about 30 more hp with the 0.63 (which is why I'm sourcing the parts to make the swap right now!). This is on a GSR at 8psi... the 0.48 might be OK for an LS since it revs lower and flows a little less but I'd still want the bigger turbine.

exactly... that's not the sort of behavior I'm accustomed to from a GSR engine! Makes me all confused and stuff!

Can you change the A/R just by changing the housing, or do you need to do anything with the exhaust wheel itself. I have a ball baring t3/4b that's .48 trim which is killing me.
If I bought a .63 AR turbine housing with Stage II trim from say, here: http://64.225.76.178/catalog/t3.html would I be able to just swap them on myself?

Actually now that I look at it, I'm pretty sure my turbo has a standard trim. I should be able to just slap on the .63 AR Standard trim housing, right? Like I said, this .48 is just killing me.

As long as the new turbine housing is made for use with your existing wheel size you can just swap housings. It's easy.

Yeah I have had a .48 A/R on my GSR before. It really doesnt like it past 6K RPM. I think LSs and SOHC can get away with using it, but it's not optimal. And yes, you can swap turbine housings to your heart's content without opening up the turbo.
The way I see it there are only two choices for Hondas. Stage3 with .63 for max power. Stage2 with .63 for better spool-up at minor compromise to top-end.

If you have a standard turbine .48 housing, then you can upgrade to a standard turbine .63 housing with no problems.

always comes with a .63.
But comes with different turbines. My friend's Civic Si (99) kit came with a Stage1 (stock) T3 turbine and .63 housing. With a T04B Super-V wheel.

anyone know how we could check to find out? Mine's a t3/04e .63 a/r, but I'd like to know what stage turbine. Could Turbonetics be of any help?

Yeah they could help. I am pretty sure the outlet diam. of the T3 Stage3 turbine is 2.25". So measure that and if it is 2.25" it should be a stage3.

Should be really easy if you pop the exh. housing off and have a set of calipers or if you can measure the exducer diameter from the outlet of the housing:
Diameters: Exducer / Major
Stage 1: 1.898 / 2.319
Stage 2: 2.122 / 2.559
Stage 3: 2.229 / 2.559

Stage 2: 2.122 / 2.559
Stage 3: 2.229 / 2.559

Hey, thanks for all the info guys, I'm going to need to verify my turbine wheel size as well. If I have a standard wheel, it would be better if I got a whole new turbo, but I can't afford that right now. That's what you get when you assume a turbo that comes with a kit would be optimum for your engine.

Thomas Knight told me that he saw no reason to put a stage II on engines the size of ours, but that the 0.63 is a very good idea... I think I'm just going to swap housings on mine and stick with the standard wheel.
