Default Who use a kevlar clutch disc in their 300whp+ car ??? take a look...

So here is my story about all my clutch I had on my D16Z6 turbo.

at 240 whp : OEM disc with a double pressure plate. This setup was the one that I prefered the most... engagement was really smooth and was holding fine... the clutch never slept BUT the disc was over after like 10 month... I can live with this...

at 287 whp: when I got my new turbo I installed a new 3 pucks un-sprung disc with the same double pressure plate... It was a bitch to drive I really disliked this setup... but I tryed to keep it.

Went to the dyno to tune with racing fuel... the disc started to slip at around 310 whp... the problem was probably the pressure plate... So I ordered a Action 2ms. Took like 1 month to get it... oh well thats another story.

at 333 whp: Still on the Action 2ms ( 6 puck with spring ) and I really dont like the feeling of this clutch...

So ... I think the best choice would be, for me who drive the car most of the time on the street ( but I love to go at the track sometimes ), a kevlar disc for his smooth engagement ( thats what I heard )

Now my questions are... who know if it will hold up over 300 whp ?? can I go to the track with this kind of disc ?? and if someone use one or tryed one... could you tell me how it was please ! I dont know why but kevlar disc are not really used by what I saw...

i have a stage 3 clutch masters in my h22 turbo teg and its held up fine, i think the pressure plate is the real issue when getting into higher hp when you are running a stage 3 or higher clutch. i say you'll be fine with the kevlar disc, but i'm not sureup to what hp, i might try mine after the rebuild (550ish whp)

RPS stage three clutch works wonders, holds the power, and is very smooth as far as engagement goes.

rps website is turboclutch.com I would talk to marty-t i think thats his name on HT. He has got some really good deals on RPS clutchs.

I have 100+ drag launches on my CM stage 3, and couldn't be happier with it..great engagement, and no fade at all yet

I just wore mine out. CM Stage 4 lasted 15,000km and about 20 passes at the track this year. Was very easy to drive and did hold well until now. I would have thought it would have lasted longer though.

thats why im maybe looking for a segmented kevlar disk... really smooth engagement a longer life too... but I need more opinions about it on ...

i used to run the same kevlar disc...its great for the street but i was just sotck w/ a few upgrades....it tends to slip when it gets hot...but it takes a lot...about 6 track runs to be exact...after that it took a while to cool down...but still grabbed easy...great for the street!

thanks... yeah I heard tht they dont like the heat that much

I just emailed CM to really know if it would hold my race setup at 335whp ?? I begin to think that it wont...

I have a 2KD with a 1.8 with SC61 turbo about 10psi. running best time of 12.4 @ 119

I have had no slipping issues at all. I have had this clutch about 2 years, but only about 10k miles on it. I had the tranny out about 1000 miles ago and the clutch still looked brand new, as well as the pressureplate and flywheel. The only thing I was told about is to not do too many hot passes on it. I did 3 rounds in a row with no cool down in bracket racing and it was fine. I am going start street course racing next year, but that dosent seem as brutal, but we will see.

Guys, keep it mind that this is for a D16 so whenever you say that it works and hooks well on your B or F doesn't matter.

I've been runnning a CM4 for more than 5 years now. It's kind of a bitch, but it hooks well. I've rebuild the disc 3 times, the first two were done very closely but I guess I had my flywheel properly surfaced the last time cuz it has been more than 3 years and it's still on the car. Agreed I don't drive the car a lot but still...

I might check for something else for next year, I might need something more "aggresive"

well I think that 300whp+ on a B, D, H X loll is all the same... the clutch is maybe not exactly the same but it give me a good idea....

I have a friend with a Spec Stage 3 on his D and he really likes it, as the engagement is smooth and the pedal has an almost stock feel.

I have had a RPS clutch in my car for 5 boosted years and it has finally let go, but it took 25 inch slicks to kill it, also it is great for daily driving very smooth engagment with quite a bit of holding power. I am right around 330 whp also, hope that helps.
