Who is making the most power with a Greddy 18G turbo?
#4
For 22 psi on a b16, that is pretty weak IMO, I know guys making more power on B16's running 12 psi on t3/t4's. Some people have put down some good numbers on the greddy kit. Nihilation put down some good numbers on his gsr, and 99lspwr put down some good numbers on his ls.

Personally, I think that's a stupid comment.
1) 346 whp is not weak whatsoever.
2) The powerband the greddy turbo puts out kicks *** with its fast spool and low RPM torque.
3) 22psi one one turbo means **** about xxPSI on another.
Greddy turbos are some of the BEST matched turbo's per engine application that you can get.

I agree. People are always just looking at the peak horsepower on the 18G. However, the powerband is what makes the greddy so great.

If this is true, I think we have a winner. What mods did you do to the wastegate? I'd like to see a dyno!
Everyone always rips this turbo and calls it small, which it's not. It's medium sized. Maybe they're thinking of the TD04-15G and get the 2 confused? In my opinion the main weakness is the wastegate. I've been holding onto mine for a while, hoping that someone will make a decent manifold for it so I can bolt up an external wastegate, but the only one I've found is SFP, and it's overpriced for the quality it is. I also don't want to lose A/C by using that specially modified Canadian downpipe. Anyway, it's a fun street turbo, but on the highway I want more power.

Re: Who is making the most power with a Greddy 18G turbo? (ccfries)
I have a tial 38mm waste gate with a 1 bar spring. At 15 psi I make 300whp and 210 torque. That using hondata and ignition timing at 18 degrees overall. A little soft on the tune like 11.6 a/r. We tune it last year at 15 psi and got 333fwhp but timming was at 22 degrees and a/r were at 12.5. But I broke three oil pump from running at 15 psi over 140 mph. So backed off the timming and added 720 cc injectors. So far 10k on the motor boosting hard.
Somebody is right the 18g does not produce a lot a top end. I dont want it too. its not laggy like a bigger turbo. The motor was biult for 45 psi.
you can all see that there is no big gain in hp from 15 to 22 psi but torque goes from 210 to 248. I think it runs the best at 17 psi where it made 317 hp and 220 torque. the 18g is small but it comes all before 7000 rpm. dont need to rev to 8000-9000 rpm. plus its a car not a race car or street car a quick car.

I hit 229whp and 164 ft-lb at 6 psi, I'm running 10 psi now and a tune by Mase. I have yet to dyno. The powerband is right on spot.

i agree,.. my friend has a greddy 18g on a b16, and the car pulls so hard at low rpm... it feels like its an all motor car... i have a 2.0L ls with an sc61... and it dodnt make any power until like 5500... his pulls hard from like 2800 and up... its perfect for a street car!!

What is the spec/ size of the 18g turbo? i know that it uses different measurement then A/R and stuff, but roughly what is it a/r if converted?

who ******* cares if you make more power on less psi? any turbo that makes over 340whp on a stock bore/stroke b16 @ 12psi will get owned by the greddy's powerband. go crawl back under your t66

The guys at cj-motorsports took care of it. I agree they did a great job on that.
They had to cut out part of the guts in the manifold so that all of the cylinders could get to the wastegate, rather than just one of them.
I've still gotta get tuned (on Hondata instead of EManage), and bump up the boost some more. I tried putting around with my exhaust silencer (it's like 1" pipe!) and my boost was spiking when my intake butterflies (or VTEC?) would open and then go back down. Hmm. It had a huge effect on my boost controller settings, actually turning the damn thing off seemed to be the best.
Oh well, I'll get it tuned for more boost and then worry about it then. I'm at 210 WHP at 5 PSI, intake restrictor plate and exhaust silencer in place

Re: Who is making the most power with a Greddy 18G turbo? (ccfries)
I plan to push this HP barrier within the next couple of weeks with a customers car.
2000 Civic Si, built B16A2 (stock sleeves), 18G, Hondata, soon to be tuned by Jeff Evans (Boosted Hybrid).
Since this is a regular street car, goals are to make as much possible power on pump gasoline. I'll keep you all posted on the #'s that we get out of it. My only concern as many of you have addressed is the capabilities of the internal gate. We are putting a larger downpipe on the car so I can only hope that it maintains a constant boost level without spiking everywhere. I just did a DP on my girlfriends setup with the 18G and boost holds completely still at 10 psi.

Re: Who is making the most power with a Greddy 18G turbo? (HybridKOOP)
I made 265 whp @ 8 psi with my 18g.. b16a(gen1).(check sig for dyno plot) Unfortunately... I think I broke a ringland now. I personally like this turbo...its prefect for a street application. However, I began to have creep issues, only at the top of third where I would spike to 10 psi. I don't know if the problem is specific to the wastegate. I ran the car for about 3 weeks with no creep/spike problems whatsoever, then one day...it just started happening. Could it be cause of the wastegate spring getting weak?

265 on a 1.6L with an 18G at 8psi is extremely impressive. Almost sounds too good to be true.
What are your others mods? Stock downpipe? Exhaust? Cat? Fuel? Intake manifold?
