Default who else here is using AEM EMS? EMS pros please read.

I have the ems system and I am currently spending every waking moment trying to figure it out! I REALLY want to know it, so I have been reading up on every aspect of aempro and I have been getting acquainted with mine, trying to figure out how I am going to get my engine dialed in (if my engine ever gets done!). I am just wondering who else on this board is running this system, and if anyone has tackled this system themselves, instead of having a tuner do the work. Where did you start???!! I will be learning the system, probably asking a lot of stupid questions, but no doubt I will get it all figured out!! If you guys know of any links to AEM EMS related info please post! Thanks.

are you playing with it on a car now? thats the best way to get started with it...as long as you have a pretty good idea of what you're doing...the tutorials on the aems forum are good enough to get you driving. be careful though cause you can break stuff pretty quick if you dork with the settings...mainly watch out for the timing and fuel maps. dont lean her out and dont get the timing out of whack

Yeah, I have been reading hella posts on the EMS board! It is somewhat over my head right now though. Some of it is at least, I am getting to know it somewhat. It is badass to say the least.

You have to register your AEM with the serial # and stuff in your profile on the forum I believe.

There is not a specific map made just for one perticular motor setup. I usually look for the closest map with correct setup instead of poking at injector size or Psi the map was designed for. If you look carefully at vortech supercharger map and compare it to 440cc type R turbo map, you will find great difference in the shape of both fuel and timing curves. Then you modify from there. Now a days, I just start from scratch since no file is really trustworthy. It will run your car but will it correspond to the exact setup you have? no, one in a million.

There is 440cc Type R turbo map available at AEM EMS forum. You must have a unit or at least a serial # from the ECU and register to go in the Base caliberation section.

W3rd. All the JRSC maps that I used were pretty crappy. I had to use one and basically start from scratch with some of the main points like fuel delivery and timing.

That's too bad. I think results with base maps vary from car to car.

Here's what I got from one hour of dyno time from a JRSC Civic Si base map.

I wasn't concerned on the correct HP and a/f on the dyno using the base maps provided on the forum. What I was concerned was the drivibility of the maps on the street. To get a pretuned base map to run the way your car should is rare. Lots of changes has to be made at least that's for me on turbo vehicle. The size of the turbo, the way it spools, the mods on the motor all contributes to the driviblity. A fuel or ignition map may curve correctly with a example T3/T4E but is way laggier on a 60-1. Supercharger is probably easier to find the correct map since there is only two types ( from what I noticed) of chargers out there and they have no sizing differences.

Yeah I would imagine a turbo would be more difficult. Roots blowers don't really change the shape of the powerband from stock very much, the numbers just get higher.

For a start on drivability what we did is hold the car at 4000 and 3000 rpm with the dyno's brake with no more than 40 load and tuned the whole lower left hand corner of the map from the rpm point we had the brake set for. That got me pretty close on streetability. I need to mess with the accel settings next. I get a little hesitation when I give it a lot of throttle all at once.
