who is burning oil on there turbo sohc????
I go through a quart of oil every 3 weeks
but my compression check came back with 185 all the way across
there is no visible signs of smoke comming out of the exhaust
only once after the car sat for a few days did a puff come out after start up.
is this common??

Re: who is burning oil on there turbo sohc???? (sporkcrx)
turbo has 50k miles off of a sabb
engine is rebuilt with 4k miles, never burned oil untill i went turbo
the only ghetto part of the car is my pcv hose comming off of the intake mani, i used a smaller piece of hose to connect the two larger hoses so I had something to clamp onto. I dont think that would restrict the pcv system that much

my motor prob. has 35,000 miles on it and my turbo has 5-6000 miles since rebuild and mine uses a little between oil changes, maybe 1/2 quart. I think they just use a little.

Re: (green91)
My turbo SOHC burns a shitload of oil as well... but compression is perfect... all about 185ish. Only @ WOT can you see any smoke... none at part throttle or idle.
115k miles or so will do that, I guess.

mines does the same
i got 8k on the engine, built fully
4k turbo miles
i use about 1 qt every 2 weeks
i do spill alot thru my valve cover breather
and i do know i burn some, but my cylinders are tapered, wich means they are larger the bottom half over the top half
and when the rings get loose, it might burn some (scca race trick to do the tapered)

Re: (USDM 4G VTEC)
Mine was burning oil until I capped off the PCV port on the IM and now I just run the hose from the oil sepreator (black box) open with no pcv valve. no oil comes out and I don't smoke like a dirt bike anymore. It was a new valve but I guess the boost pressure was pushing past it and presurizing the crankcase and pushing oil past the rings, and a little out the dipstick tube lately since I switched to 20-50. My new built block will have a 'real' crankcase vent system but this is fine for now.
So anyone that is smoking w/ good compression should pull the PCV out and off to the side to see if thats it.

Re: (96y7turbo)
Hallo,
i have the same problem with my B16 and Garett T3 Turbo as well... only burn oil under WOT non in part throttle.
unter wot i have a lot of black particles at my read bumper, i guess its the turbo burning oil because it is leaking a bit at high turbo rpms. do you think thats realistic?
compression is ok on all 4 cyl.
u have a consumtion of about 1/4 litre at about 1000 km under hard driving conditions. if i drive slow and easy i have nearly no oil consumption.

hey guys
here in Denmark we have a problem with the D16z6 it uses the oil and the problem here is the 99.5 % off them is the piston rings are bad...so maybe your rings are bad...

Re: (Denis aka CiViC4dr)
nope definitely isnt a bad ring
I just checked it today after my post, I havent lost a drop of oil since i changed it.
Maybe it was just burning oil because the old turbo's oil seals hadnt sealed properly yet, whatever the reason i havent lost any more oil since the initial first 2 weeks

on every turbo ive had so far, they puked at least some oil past the seals on the exhaust. this makes a LOT more smoke than just burning the oil..... my car uses almost no oil at all......(1/10'th quart over the last 1000 miles, mostly racing or rippin) but it smokes when i get on it hard....a little bit of oil on a HOT downpipe steams off and makes a bunch of smoke.

I still kick myself for forgetting to use teflon for my oil feedline threads...little oil drips at a WOT onto downpipe and it makes some smoke.....
