Default White smoke at idle (lots and lots of it!)

hey everyone,

i went down to a show yesterday in my B18 turbo, and when i arrived i arrived in a cloud of lots and lots of white smoke!

it only happens at idle, or when on overrun (only when there is a vaccuum)

my oil levels havent dropped, and my water levels are good too, it drove all the way home (about 200 miles) without any problems, and then when i stopped again i was in a huuuge cloud of white smoke!

Ive not had any problems before, im running a hondata s300 with wideband input, and it was at a steady 14.6 - 14.8 on the road at closed loop,

if you have any ideas of what to start taking apart first please let me know

theres not much room to work, so not looking forward to stripping it down!

... ive been trying to get my head arround this, and im thinking valve stem seals, or one of them, because wouldnt the vacuum suck oil into one of the bores through the stem seal when theres vacuum?
im going to check my spark plugs to see if any are oily

It could be your turbo that's blown.

Remove one of your easy to reach charge pipe couplings and have a look inside. If there's oil there then your turbo is the source of the smoke.

Oil does not create white smoke. Oil is more bluish greyish and stinks bad. If its white its more than likely water from somewhere.

I had to just google 'haul ***', i didnt know if you was saying i must drive arround with hookers in my car! LOL

ive still not diagnosed the problem, theres no oily spark plugs, theres no oil in the boost pipes so im very confused at the moment!

im going to take off the manifolds and turbo (i want to paint the turbo anyway) and ill check all the gaskets,

if i cant find any problems im going to take the head off and fit new stem seals and headgasket,

at least then everything is new

thats me being sloppy with the oil, i topped it up before the journey and it didnt burn off on the whole journey it was only a small ammount

after scratching my head and looking for what this might be, i might have found the problem....

the compressor housing on my turbo (the snail!) i think has come a bit loose!!!
one of the bolts has untightened themselves i think, its only a small ammount but i wonder if this could stop the oil seals working, i was checking them all with a spanner and one tightened up, so maybe this was the problem! ill find out on the drive later on, would it create them symptoms?

thanks
james

white smoke is water so you might have a head gasket going bad. get a compression test and a leakdown test done

it could also be a turbo seal, ive read a lot about people having white smoke at start up and at idle and it was that

That radiator cracks me the hell up.

Lots of white smoke at idle is almost always a bad turbo seal, a cocked compressor housing could easily ruin one.
