Default where to tap for oil drain line?

i've heard that you are supposed to tap above the oil line in the pan so that there's no restriction, but even if you do it directly into the oil itself, shouldn't it still be able to drain freely? either way the oil should fall down into the pan, whether o not it flows directly into the oil it shouldn't matter right?

i'd appreciate first hand experience replies only. i know what "should" be better in regards to common notions, but has anyone tapped it below the oil level and had good luck?

Do you know what you're meaning by that? You actually have you're oil line tapped into the downpipe? If so: Tell your motor for me and I give it my best.

EDIT:
1.) Perhaps tapping your oil line into the downpipe caused this problem: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1142582
2.) Alas! I caught you fibbing https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1332526!

To answer your original question though: put the bung as high as you can on the oil pan. Just plan ahead so that you don't put the bung right under a bolt that holds the oil pan on (for obvious reasons). Also put the bung in a location that allows the return line to be as straight and as downward as possible.
