Where did you guys tap your EGT Probe?
Ok. I'm hearing two different things here. Some people are telling me to tap the EGT probe in the 3rd cylinder tube of the manifold cuz that's where it runs the hottest in our Hondas.
Some people are telling me its the 1st cylinder tube that runs the hottest and to tap it there.
Any feedbacks?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of this?

I would actually think this is a disadvantage is it not? You want it near the runners of the manifold since that's where the hot gases exit. If it were on the DP, then it wouldn't be reading an accurate Temperature of how hot your motor is releasing the exhaust gas out.

yep. the only advantage is if the probe melted off it wouldnt get sucked into the turbo.

Re: (shadow103rd)
that cylinder retains the heat from the other cylinders around it. This retained heat makes cylinder 3 more efficient with the higher temps which makes the EGT's higher.

Re: (LostSolVTEC)
will the EGT's drop enough to notice if the probe is in the DP
On my current setup the probe is in the 3rd cyl, but my new setup will be an inline pro mani and used DP
the DP is already drilled and tapped for a probe, should i drill my new inline pro or is the DP enough with good tuning???

Re: (95gsrturbo)
if that's so, mine is melting everytime i drive on the highway with the EGT's at 1400, i'm pretty sure aluminum begins to melt around 1600, someone jump in if i'm wrong on that one

i usually put them as close to the turbo as possible in the collector or the center of the manifold. if you stick it with just one cylinder, and that cylinder goes bad, then you're going to have a false reading, but if another cylinder goes bad, then you won't see it.

Re: (granteeton)
i've seen my fair of melted EGT probes that went into turbos and damaged them...
I tapped mines on the wastegate dump since its the best way to get accurate temps when underboost, cause when your not boosting, it doesn't really matter.

its 1220 degrees F. Why are you bringing the melting poing of aluminum into things though?

edit - also.. sorry I cant tell you what my EGTs used to be... im rebuilding my **** and its not done yet
cool ive never seen one like that... Wastegate dump, like the dump tube after the wastegate? Or the little elbow that the wastegate is attached to the manifold by?

Re: (LostSolVTEC)
yeah, i looked it up, but now that i think about it- im sure our sleeves, etc are not pure aluminum- more like an alloy so that may make them more heat resisant.. notice MAY-- we dont know what if any metals are in the mix
