the .48 housing is very restrictive, you probably won't find one for a stage 5 wheel. If you want quicker spool than it has now, you need a smaller turbo.

.48 was an option when I bought this. maybe it was for the stage 3

i maxed out a 57 trim turbo at ~ 300whp on a d16 with a .48
i was having a problem getting all the exhaust through that little housing.

Agreed. Don't switch to a stage 3 wheel and use the 56 trim GT40 compressor that is on the SC61, it's not a good match. Like Tony said, run a smaller turbo if you want quicker spool. I had a .48 stage 3 50 trim t3/t4 on my 1.8 VW and it was a nice turbo for around 300-400hp.

FYI precision has always had it on their site that there's a .48 a/r housing for SC61, however the smallest they actually would sell was a .63 a/r, w/ a stg 5 wheel. as many have said... if you're wanting to change spoolup characteristics with the turbo... go with a smaller turbo.

How'd that happen? Theres a few people here that made 400+whp with the .48 a/r and 50trim.

Re: Where can I get a .48 backhousing for an sc61? (M.A.R.C.)
Anyone know if a t04e 60 trim with a .48 a/r can make power up to 9200 on a b16? stock port, CTR cams. right now the sc61 is still making power at 9300 where I shift. or would I need a to4e with a .63 to continue to make power over 9k?

Re: Where can I get a .48 backhousing for an sc61? (Boostage)
Boostage, you are confused. If you want a more streetable turbo, you need to make tradeoffs. If you go with a smaller turbo 99% of the time, the top end will suffer. What you need to do is figure out what you really want. Personally I'd suggest a 50 or 60 trim t04e with a .82 AR turbine housing. The 50 trim and 60 trim wheels are by far the best t04e wheels and will easily support 400-450whp. 50 trim will provide slightly better low end and 60 trim will provide slightly better top end. Its easily the most cost effective route. I personally like the idea of the 50 trim with the .82ar housing but I'm a big fan of the 50 trim.

How about a stainless steel .58a/r w/5-bolt outlet turbine housing?

8-1 has dick to do with it. my sc61 is a stage 5 wheel 76 trim. doesnt matter if i had 12-1 c/r it still wouldnt spool fast. especially since I have CTR cams without the overlap dialed out and a ported JG intake. my motor setup is fine. my turbo sizng is not.
Plus didnt Evans do a test that proved c/r has no effect on spool time?

Re: Where can I get a .48 backhousing for an sc61? (Boostage)
you're entire setup is the problem. 8:1 cr is fine but you have a bad combination of parts to get a good powerband.
8:1 cr on a stock bore b16 (ok by itself)
but then you have a big *** IM
an ls tranny
and then an sc61.
i bet if you go to a b16 tranny alone it'll feel better. anyway marcos has a 60 trim at home.

I dont disagree with you at all Marc. but here is the thing. the torque multiplication of a b16 tranny is way better, and yes the reponse will be more snappy because of this, but the fact still remains that the turbo isnt producing the low and mid range I need.all the b16 tranny is going to do is get me into my shitty powerband quicker. but the powerband will still be shitty.

Here's the part number for the housing.
.48 a/r stage V t350 wheel 5-bolt ( 20357-05 )
Give turbonetics a call.
