where to buy a rebuild kit for a garrett turbo?
I need a rebuild kit for my t3t4. is there anywhere i can buy the kit? i have tried turbonetics and also garrett, but they say i need to be a distributer to buy from them.
I know i can send the turbo out and get it repaired, but that is almost a waste of money. Can just about buy a new one for the price of a rebuild.

You are in Ohio? You could try Summit Racing (330-630-3030).
Or Engine Performance Specialists (919-255-9647)
Or you could send it to Turbonetics... turnaround right now is about 3-5 days on a rebuild. You could get away with spending about $350 complete if it's in good shape and just needs wear and tear bearings, seals, thrust bearing, etc. If there is any wheel damage on either end, the cost of the rebuild goes up tremendously. Also, you might want to measure the quill at the point past the compressor nut where it should stick out a little. If you have a 1/4" small shaft, we might not be able to rebuild it if there is any wheel, bearing housing or backplate damage, since we are only building and rebuilding big shaft (5/16" diameter) from now on.
As long as you get the chra high speed balanced (if you opt to just buy the rebuild kit and do it yourself), and you know what you're doing, that should be fine. I don't recommend trying to rebuild it yourself and put it back together using the "marking" method. We test those at our facility and marking it just isn't accurate enough - it can typically be out of balance by more than 3 or 4 g's. We don't let a turbo go out the door with more than 1.0 g of imbalance, so you can count on it lasting longer, especially in high boost situations - as long as it is cared for properly.
If you opt to go that route, you can call me at 805-581-6722 and I'll talk to you more about the rebuild.
