When should your wastegate open for a 7psi spring.
I have a deltagate with a modified 9lbs spring. I get about 6-7psi max boost. I can hear the wastegate start to open shortly after the turbo spools so I assume it opens up around 1-2psi ( I don't have a boost gauge).
Is this normal or should it be staying closed longer?

Re: (juice91si)
why would u even have a "modified" spring? get the spring rate you want/need and stick with it. either that or just get a boost controller and go from there

How close, physically, are the MAP sensor and wastegate to each other?
If the wastegate is pulling right off the compressor housing, but the MAP is reading after the intercooler, piping and intake manifold....you may just be loosing some pressure. Whether it be from small leaks or bottle necks in the system.
Plus when the intercooler cools down the charge, that thereotically means the the pressure has to drop.
So you may try moving the wastegate to the intake manifold just to see what happens. Although wastegate instruction usually recommend keeping the wastegate line as short as possible.

If your using just a spring in the wastegate, and no boost controller whatsoever, then the spring will start to open at a very low psi (maybe 1-2 psi) and keep opening SLOWLY as the boost goes up until it reaches the spring rate and is fully open.
there is the answer to your question.

Re: (mustafa)
Your welcome.
If you use an electronic or manual boost controller, it will hold the wastegate completely closed until it hits the amount of boost you set on the controller.
Also as said, there will be a pressure drop because of your intecooler so if the wastegate is 9lbs, you might only see 7lbs on a guage. This is normal.
