Default whats wron with a fmu

ive posted a few times on other forums and this one for some reason people hate on fmu the cartech is adj and goes from 12.1 to 10.1 etc all the way till 8.1 what is wrong with running a cartech fmu and just adjusting the timing through a msd...its the manual way to do it this is how people have ran them for years..until now we can do hondata aem etc..but i say im gonna do a fmu at 6psi on a gsr keep low boost for reliability issues..and i get the response ...well your gonna have to ditch the fmu if you want it to be reliable....i dont understand when boost comes the fmu will adjust accordingly of course ill tune it on a dyno or wide band but i think its still safe to run a fmu with great results..what are your responces??if you say fmu suck please explain..

The major flaw with a FMU is that it adds more fuel by increasing the rail fuel pressure, instead of increasing pulsewidth like you SHOULD do. It is improbable that you will get a good AFR throughout the engine RPM range, because it is difficult to predict how additional fuel pressure will affect every injector on the market and varying pulsewidth.

but this does not mean i cant reliably run one ill just have to run it a little richer to keep it all safe through out the rpm band...i looked at doint the whole urbadata thing but it costs 500 just to convert to obd1 on a gsr..im trying to keep it cheap is a vafc a better choice then?

6 psi of boost is well over 110psi of fuel pressure with a 12:1 fmu. Your injectors were designed to operate between 40-50 psi. Another problem is that you can not tune per rpm or pressure, it's either dumping fuel or not.

FMUs work but there are better oprions for the same amount of money out there that will afford you a much more tunable setup that can run stock fuel pressure. Why not spend the same $ for a better setup?

Not to mention that the fuel lines may burst at that much pressure, or that the fuel pump may not be able to support it.

Nothing wrong, you're just limiting yourself when you can make more power with Hondata or EMS. Mechanical way to control fuel versus electronic way to control fuel, you're pick

your not considering the whole senario. you are trying to save 2 or 300 dollars when you are risking a 3000 dollar engine. just do the hack if your worried about cost i guess. You will need to run more boost than 6 psi to make the hack reliable though

uberdata = free
rom burner = $100
29c256 chip and install kit = $5

So for $100-150 you can have real engine management, you can control fuel, and timing so you save a bunch of cash, not to mention you can actually tune your car.

The FMU only has 1 setting, set that and hope for the best, this can cause lean and rich portions of your map, NOT ideal if you are worried about reliability

whats hack??you can can change the fmu that cartech has its like a fpr it has a *** to increas or decrease fuel...and yes urbadata sounds great BUT i have a obd2 computer and i dont have 500 to convert to obd1 think this way obd1 conversion 500
making comp chip for urba data 30.00
and then the burner 110....ok now were up to 640.00 for urba data ....if it worked for obd2 then that would be awsome...but it doesnt..

there is more to converting to obd1 than just getting the wiring harness...
