what's involved in turbo for 92 civic
hey guys, i don't really know a lot about what is involved in turboing a car. I realize that if I just stick a turbo on and drive I'm probably going to kill my car. I have always been told that a car has to be built for a turbo. I'm about to swap my engine to a D15b w/ v tec, can anyone tell me what kind of special things i am going to have to do to get it set up for a turbo, or at least point me in the right direction.

D15 have been said to have weak rods but you could probably still get around 200whp or close to it....
get it profressionally tuned by a reputable tuner and hopefully you'll be ok. lol
dont cheap out on important components like the mani, turbo, WG...get a decent fuel set up too ofcourse. good luck
also...you need to search and do a lot of research before posting simple/broad questions like these.

Re: (EASY101)
The most important things: fuel injectors (bigger) and a tunable ECU. I suggest 550cc+ in most cases, saturated injectors require no modding (besides the seals). For the fuel control, you can use Hondata/Crome/eCtune/Neptune/etc on the stock ecu. A p28 is best, but a p06 can be converted to a vtec ecu. If you get a complete odb1 swap, it will have a p08, which is the same deal as a p28. The other semi-important thing is the fuel pump. All honda pumps are 79lph besides the dohc vtec pumps (139lph). 79lph pumps will have issues above 200whp. 139lph pumps can do about 350 before you want to upgrade. A 190lph Walbro will support 400whp, and a 255HP will support 550whp.
The turbo size is also something to consider. The ideal size for a stock d-series is usually a 60trim T3 w/.48 A/R turbine housing. A t3/t04b s-trim is a little bigger, and a 50trim t3/t04e is the biggest I'd go on a stock D15. You could also get a cheap 50trim T3, but that would be limited to 180-200whp at 12psi, the limit of your stock MAP sensor.
Other than that, there is an FAQ at the top of this forum, everything is explained well in that. THere's also a big, simple guide that's good for n00bs: http://beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

well right now i got a D15B7 with 185k miles on it, and i don't really want to be boosting that. so I'm swapping that for a D15B with vtec cause i found a really good price on one with like 30k miles on it. Also it's my first engine swap and I'm doing it myself so i want to keep it simple. as for the turbo, thanks for the info guys. I just wanted to catch a glimpse of what I have to look forward to doing with it. I'm not looking for a ton of power. just want to beat my room mates gsr. Thanks for the link cause i'm definately a noob about fi.
