Power wise none really, but most large turbos do not have internal gates.
If you want to keep things quite a internal gate will do that, but so will a closed loop external dump too.
In general it doesn't matter.

So if i was putting together a kit for my d series on the cheap, it would be best to go for a turbo that is internally gated?
What benifits are there by switching to an external gate?
What limitations are present sticking with an internal wastegate?
