what would be a good sized turbo for a M3?
well i sold my hatch a couple of weeks ago and picked up a 98 M3 with 50,000 miles on it. (sold the hatch for 11,500 and paid 15,000 for the M)
anyways i plan on boosting the M very soon and was curious to know that turbo out there could flow enough for a 3.2 liter inline 6?

yea i plan on boosting the stock motor about 8-10 psi at first. these motors are good for about 400-450 stock.
later on i plan on going forged internals. i have read that the weak points on these motors is the pistons but that the rods are actually really stong.
what about a T66 turbo? supras with inline 6's use them dont they? or is that too big still

Supras use em, but if I were to use a mid sized turbo I would use a PT67. *supposedly* more efficient at lower boost levels, which is what you want. Plus you're supporting PTE, not turd-o-netics. I myself think it would be a bit on the large side for a totally stock motor. I got to drive a Supra with a .58 A/R 62-1 on it, and I really liked the nice broad power curve it had. The bigger turbos it gets to be more like a honda, but when you can actually get traction at lower RPM's and don't spin the motor as hard, lag starts to become a bad thing.

Active Autowerke uses a 20g in their turbo kit for the M but at 10k+ its a little pricey. If it were my car I might do a GT35E or a PT67

A t66 should be just fine on an m3, lots of fwd mitsu's run them with a little lag b/c of the 2.0, and supras spool them very quickly. I have not heard a single good thing about pte turbos, so I would steer clear of them. My friend has a 95 auto m3 and he bought an agp 60 trim t3/t4 for it. Good luck on the kit, and post up pics when its done.

Havn't heard a single good thing about PTE? I don't know where the hell you buy turbos, but I havn't heard a single BAD thing about PTE, and there are 100+ people on this board alone running precision turbos, so just because no mitsu guys run them doesn't mean they're crap. Turbonetics has **** customer service, and the quality of their parts has declined massively in the past few years.
I don't know about you but I wouldn't consider lagging to 4000-4500 with a T66 spooling "very quickly", especially when it's a lower revving stock 3.2L motor that is going to be running at lower boost levels.

Do a search on Precision and/or PTE.
I would recommend a PT-61 with an S compressor cover and a .68 A/R turbine housing. I think you would benefit from talking to a Precision dealer before you decide. Good luck. Cant wait to see another turbo M3 on the road
