Default What turbo is right for me?

here's what i have in a dx eg hatch:

JDM GSR Motor (B18c3)
3k miles on the motor after rebuild

Kenji chipped P28 ecu

B16 tranny
12lb lighten flywheel
exedy clutch

port N polished head
3 angle valve job
CTR cams

new crank
new oil pump
new acl bearings (main and rods)
new pistons
new piston rings
new thrust washers
motor was honed and bored .20 over

DC sports JDM 4-1 SS header with 2.5" collector (won't matter)
CAI
AEM fpr

2.5" exhaust piping
apexi muffler

i was thinking of a 18g greddy kit, but can't find one for sale. i want something that kinda has a fast spool and thats why i wanted the greddy kit. i'm not looking to making a lot of power, just more power than the JRSC i have on the car. i'm currently running 6psi with JRSC, but i know i'll make more power running 6-7psi with a turbo kit.

if you want a kit just get a peakboost kit. other words peice it together yourself and use a garret t4/to4e 50 or 57 trim

Piece together your own. The 57 trim works well with the B18c, check my signature!

Sounds good... Will spool up at around 2k, and you'll start to feel it let go at around 5-6k... you'll run about 220whp @ ~9psi with that.

I read in a book where a b-16 with a t3 was tested against the same motor with a t3/t04 and the t3 produced more hp and torque than the t3/t04. the motor did not respond as well as thought from the t04's larger compressor.

thats a good story, but I dont buy it...UNLESS you meant t3 like a 60-1... sure, but in this case the term "t3" doesn't adequately describe the turbo, and judging by your post, the t3 seemed to be the "smaller" turbo

i want something thats going to spool up pretty quick, but not lose steam up top.

i'm running a b16 tranny, so i'm thinking that traction may be a problem as i have an eg hatch that this set up will be in.

i was thinking of a Greddy 18g, but i can't find anyone selling a used one.

here's a pic of the turbo i was looking at getting:

http://www.t-mobilepictures.co...zhw4n

don't know the exact specs on it just yet.

Get a t3/t4 with a 57 trim compressor, for a little faster spool get the .48 A/R turbine or for a little more top end get the .60 A/R. That is what I have on my GSR. Full boost (7psi) around 4k and hold up top. With a little more psi it will really start to move!!

I would have a new down pipe made up, that will really restrice you power. Also you will need to invest in a solid EMS. Get a conversion harness and a chipped obdi ecu with a basemap then drive to a tuner asap!!

i actually have that book. i was like wtf when i read that too. a t3 60 trim .63 ar made more power than a t3/t04b .63ar (unknown trim). i still dunno if i buy it cause the book said they never found the "problem" but who knows.

i have the dynos from the book that show the t3 being better but i dunno if i believe it. obviously a larger compressor should flow more and make more power. but as another example...the full-race team originally had a 60-1 on their pinks car and were making bad power with it. swapped to a t3/t4 57 trim and the car made way better power. i dunno i guess even the best theories dont always work out.

If it was a little s-trim t3/t04B (1.9" inducer, 2.75" exducer), and a super60 t3 (1.9" inducer, 2.367" exducer), I wouldn't doubt it. Looking at the maps for both (from same source), the s-trim flows 37lb/hr, and the super60 36lb/hr. The s-trim has more restriction due to the extra vane and a heavier wheel. I'd also surmise the super60 had a stage3 wheel, and the t3/t04b had a stage1 turbine. It all goes to show you, its the little specs that count. Anyways...

Anything between a super60 t3 and a t3/t04E 50trim will make you happy.

good point, there were no specs on the t3/t04b but i know the t3 was from the 2.3l turbo mustang, im pretty sure they are the super 60 right?

anyways, i digress, ill vote for the 50 or 57 trim as well.

that 60-1 was junk off the shelf...not a good comparison...
