Default What tranny should i go with on this setup

First things off... this will be the basic setup:

*b16a head
-gsr cams
-supertech valve springs and retainers
-blox intake manifold

*b18c block
-supertech pistons 9-1
-eagle rods

*fuel
-750cc inj
-255 walbro pump

*ems
-hondata s300b

*turbo
-sc61 (havent figured which one yet)
-for now im using a bloc log manifold since i got one laying around

With that said, my hp goal is 400 on pump gas. I have been looking around and i remember there were threads on people asking which tranny is good. I was going to go with a type r tranny because of the lsd but the gears are too short. So here are my questions:

1: Is the b16a tranny a good choice over the gsr, or is it comparable to a type r trannys gearing without the lsd?

2: Do jdm gsr trannys have a stock lsd option?

3: Where did u guys get your trannys at? site? Ive looked at HAP, attarco, Hmotors, Passwordjdm

4: With my setup... does the gsr sound like the best option for me?

Thanks in advance

hey man,we got a simular setup goin on, gsr head with a b18b block tho... same goal 400whp mine's still na but im in the process of gettin the rest of my internals to get it built and boosted, currently in the car i got a ls trans, but i also got a si trans in the garage tryin to decide which one to go with.... i kinda like the close gears of the si but dont know if that'll help or not with boost, and also ive heard a couple ppl talk about how good the ls 3rd gear is for boost since its so long but then some ppl dont agree

Depends on what your looking for. In a drag setup the shorter gears the faster it will be. If your doing street/strip I would probably go with a gsr.
I'm running an LS trans in mine and I love it, but others say they suck. It's depends on the person.

yea, i get what your sayin there... one of my buddies with a si trans and simular setup could put down 9.70 in the 1/8th while my best time i could get was a 9.78 with a ls trans.... but on the street from a roll i would walk off and leave him

The gsr is a good compromise if the car is street driven. If its a track car with a tall tire go with the b16.

mostly gonna be for some freeway fun on the streets. i been told numerous times and ive seen alot of people go with the gsr or ls. wouldnt the b16 be pretty similar with the type r gear ratios? i had a b16 turbo in my last setup and it wasnt that bad.. although the rev is alot higher in 5th gear cruising.

any more input??

if you already have the type r tranny run it. also sc61 is overkill for 400whp, gt30r ftw.

well i dont have the type r tranny yet... although i have one on hand anytime i need one. the only reason why i want to use the type r tranny is because of the stock lsd. i know the sc61 may be a little overkill for 400 but if i decide to up the boost, i know the turbo will have room to grow. but like i said above, i havent decided yet so i may go with a 30 or 35r, depends on how im feelin at the moment lol. so the type r tranny isnt such a bad idea afterall? if this other guy sells me his gsr for cheap within a week, thats what ill most likely end up with... but if he doesnt come through, ill probably go ahead and swoop on the type r. i mean... its still gonna rip on the freeway either way anyways, but i like to maximize my advantages at the track as well.

more opinions on which to use and why?

my best friend/our customer's type r turbo hatch hooks pretty solid in third, at 407whp on the 30r with drag radials. he has the factory lsd.

unless u plan on over 500whp i would suggest the 30r, even at 400whp it has a lot of room to grow with more boost.

i just might consider a ball bearing turbo.. the only thing is i dont wanna spend over 1k for a turbo but the sc61 isnt to far off from it either. id like to make 500 but it wont last long with an unsleeved block i dont think. what turbos do u have in stock? honestly... i wont be purchasing the turbo within a few months, but i like to keep my options open. do u know around what mph he maxes out at in 4th with the type r tranny? thanks for the infos guys

also... your friends type r turbo made 407 with stock type r internals? i actually have 2 motors im building.. the other one is a ls/vtec with type r pistons... everything else is pretty much stock. and i was planning on "maybe" boosting this to but the compression on the type r pistons are a little on the high side, and although i dont care about that motor as much, i dont wanna blow it up for kicks either haha.

its a built block with a stock head. he maxes out 3rd at 85mph, and 4th at ~120mph.

we have tons of garrett turbos in stock all the t3/t04e's, 60-1's gt28rs's, 30rs, 35r's

thanks for the help... what does the gsr max out at 4th in?? considering the rev will be up to 9-9500. im learning something new everyday. ive always had an idea on alot of things but once i actually take charge with the idea, more technical factors come into play. thanks for everyones responses to... any other opinions as to say which tranny i should go with, and any doubts on a type r tranny
