What tires do you high hp guys recommend on the street?
Hey guys, i bought a set of 15x7 rota slipstreams for my 92 gti. They have a set of kumho ecsta mx's on them right now, but are pretty bald from the previous owner. My gti put down 374whp and im doing a fuel system right now and will be pushing more boost soon, so i need a tire to hold the power instead of spinning through 3rd like i do right now. So, what do you guys use for a tire that has somewhat good treadwear. I used to have a set of bfg drag radials for the track back when i was all motor and they worked well. but i need a tire to drive on the street and not wear out that quick. I don't drive the car everyday, so that helps a little bit i guess. Thanks And here's a picture of the car for pics. alot of people on this board actually drive around with the bfg radials or nittos.
personally they wear out too fast for me and are too expensive to replace so i
just went with falken azenis

I use the bfg dr on the street. They are good in the dry but I got stuck in a bad rain storm one night and they sucked. I was all over the road. I had falken on the front but went to the bfg. If you do not drive it everyday I would go with the bfg.

I have 2 sets for the front. 225/50/15 BFG DR's and 225/50/15 BFG KD's. 430 WHP in a 2200 pound EG. The drag radials get squirrely when boost hits in second and you can feel them spinning a bit but it isn't a violent spin where your speedo is reading 30 faster than you're actually going. The KD's feel the same way, except till the end of third, which is about 100 MPH. If I air the drag radials down and heat them up I can leave with a few pounds of boost on the street and they will hook decently in second. When I drive my car to work, school, etc, I roll on the KD's, and if I'm going to have some fun on the weekend I put the drag radials on. Expect anywhere from 2000-3000 miles on the BFG DR's depending on how hard you drive, how much you go to the strip, etc.

yeah if you dont want to break lose thats your best bet. For a street tire, Id go with the Azenis or T1-S.

I have a total of 6 Rota C8's. I a total of 4 205/50/15 Yokohama AVSES100 tires which I use two in the rear at all times, then use the other two when it's raining and what not. Then on the other 2 I have a set of 205/50/15 BFG G-Force Drag Radials that get quite a bit of use during the summer time or whenever I know its gonna be dry for a while.

Has anyone ever tried Advans? I am going to get new tires for next season and I am just baffled by the choices. Looking to get good traction and would be happy getting 7-10k miles out of a set.

About running slicks on the street, Has anybody done this?, because i am thinking about running some Mikey Thompson ET Streest in the front, cause I have Huge traction probs at 8 psi, and i cant imagine it at 20+, so i want to plan ahead before i buy tires.

If you're OK running nothing shorter than a 26" tall tire, then the ET streets will work OK on the street. You'll get about 1000 miles out of them.

Advans are available throught discount tire direct and tire rack. Ijust want to know if any has ran them or anything like them.

I don't know about the Falken Azenis guys I have the 215/45/16 on my car and with about 420whp or so it was ripping them through 3rd very very easely I mean the turbo would spool up and they would be going already...
And yes I have a quaife on the car.

ive heard that the azenis are not a good straight line tire (high horsepower cars) because of their stiff sidewalls. i ran azenis' on my old h22 prelude and she would spin alot through first, but all the other gears were fine. i can only imagine how much worse it would be on a car with 400hp
