Default What size wrap for Full-race ramhorn?

Sorry for question (I searched briefly, but got mixed opinions and not a lot of users I trusted).

I have a full-race ram horn (AC kit). Should I get 1" or 2" to wrap? Also, any advice on how many feet I will need to wrap the manifold and the down pipe?

Thanks guys.

2 inch, 15 feet per 2 horns . So you'll need 30 feet. I used that on my ramhorn and you can wrap it kinda tight too. I dont remember exactly how much was used for my downpipe

Id actually think 1" would be easier on those tight radius's. I have successfully wrapped my ramhorn with 2" though.

I would use 1" but 2" would work. I always see people use hose clamps to secure the wrap at the ends. Buy some black stainless steel zip ties they look 1000 times better, hold up great, and are cheap.

I've not had good luck with the stainless tie wraps. I can never get them tight enough. Is there a tool you can buy or method to tighten?

Hold a flat head screw driver against the buckle and pull the end with pliers. It will get very tight.

The flat head and a set of pliers method works very good to get them extremely tight, and as said, for the 50 cents each they cost, they are more than worth the stealth look they offer, hose clamps look ghetto and cut the **** out of your arms!!

1" wrap, 50' would easily do your ramhorn and I would pick up 25' of 2" for a full length 3" diameter downpipe

You can use the screw driver but it still doesn't get as tight as when you use the correct tool below. The problem I have with that method as well is things can slip too easily even if you curl the pliers in the excess tie.

There are many different versions of the gun style. There is a MUCH cheaper alternative that doesn't work as well and is similar tightness to the screw driver / plier method. It's basically a 1/4" ratchet extension with the end cut off and a slit down the middle. I couldn't find a picture of it online, but I could take a picture of the one I own if you really can't see it in your head.

I used 2" personally at 30 feet and it did the job for me on my RC Autoworks Manifold...I also used stainless steel ties

2" worked perfect for my ramhorn.

Use 1" wrap I can't remember the length, with two you wont get it tight enough around the radius's. The stainless zip ties work fine, just bend the end up and over so if it lets go its no problem. Honestly, think the ceramic coating is the way to go. If you do wrap it, get the ceramic paint and coat the wrap. It really helps hold it together. Another unforeseen side effect of the wrap it blows *** getting the flange bolts tight with the wrap more so than without.
The picture is of mine with roughly 6000k miles but its about a year or more old since putting the wrap on. I'm sure you can tell its a full-race ramhorn.

I also wanted to mention I had before and after temps with my ir meter, it didn't help that much. A friend of mine got his s2k turbo manifold swain tech coated, inside too, it made a massive difference.

I have used the Swain Tech stuff on all my setups. Stuff is great. Using IR gun at the collector (B series AC Ramhorn) I recorded surface temps in the 500-600F range. I didn't have the inside coated. Swain Tech suggest not doing that. They can have issues getting the coating to stick and the ceramic can flake off and impact the blades.

We measure in the 500F range too on the s2k if memory serves. I could have sworn they coated the inside but I maybe I am remembering incorrectly since collector temps are about the same. Ether way sweet stuff. I will eventually have mine coated.

You noticed no difference where? Surface temp of manifold? Radiant heat? Engine bay?

I am worried about cooking the paint on my hood, so I wrapped the manifold added a turbo blanket and wrapped the downpipe. My hood get just as hot as it did before all of this. The thing that helped the most was putting 1in hood spacers in. My plan is to make a heat shield that attaches to the hood and get the manifold swain coated. If memory serves on the manifold surface temp with my ir there was maybe a 100F drop in temp. I'm sure the wrap helps reduce radiant heat. I was less than impressed, I guess my expectations were too high. idk

Its just because the hood is directly above and is absorbing everything coming off of the manifold. Eventually the wrap will be the same temp as the manifold, but when you are wromping on it it keeps the heat from escaping as fast.
