At what point does merge collector become critical?
I have done a lot of reading regarding different manifold designs, EL, and merge collecters.
While I understand that a manifold w/ a merge collector is ideal at what poing (powerwise) does it become critical?
For example? is it overkill for a 300-350 whp set up? or will you always make more power over a log manifold with the same set up?
I just need to justify the cost between $250 (log) or $765 Ramhorn AC if my desired power levels are 400 whp.

its never really critical but it has been proven to make more top end power then log manifolds on all boost levels... when you have a huge turbo pushing alot of air into the motor it needs to be able to get back out....which is why you see bigger power differences on bigger setups
it does not however reduce lag.......

Re: (D@nnY)
Not planning on using anything too big.
Sc34 or
T3/T04E .63 Ar and 57 or 60 trim
I am leaning toward the Inline Pro if I can get a good price.

Re: At what point does merge collector become critical? (turboeg77)
Think of what you do to the motor in terms of its effect on VE. Your engine is just an air pump and anything you can do to make it work more efficiently will increase your power output potential.
Is it critical to have an EL, no it is not critical for those power levels. The engine will make those power levels with lower stress on the internals if the VE is higher though. But again, you can make 400WHP with a log.
Aside from power...
Is it critical when you open the hood to see a ram horn or EL in there?
Do you just like the idea of knowing you are running more efficiently with an EL over a log?
Or do you prefer to have the extra money in your pocket?
Good luck with your build!

Re: At what point does merge collector become critical? (Alfa Turbo)
Honestly, I am willing to spead about $750 on the manifold alone. Sure I like the look of a hand made manifold (welds). If it is proven to make more power at any power level then i will buy one. I just want to know that it does and by a significant (at least 15-20 whp) amount.
I personally dont like the look of a log manifold (espacially a cast one) but I dont own a show car and I dont pop my hood for anyone either. I just want to reach my desired power goals and more if I choose to go that route in the future.

thats what i was wondering .
i want to keep boost as low as possible but have an efficient path . im goign to try to maximize every part of the system and hope to keep reliability good
id rater make 300whp ant 5psi then 300 at 10 on the same turbo .
