Re: WHAT IS...........j&s safeguard (int3gra)
SWEET.... i'm a real newbi when it comes to turbos.
what does it adjust? Boost ?
its a knock controller ......... it listens for detonation and adjusts it accordingly.
its a safety device.

It retards the timing on your engine to prevent detonation from damaging your engine and if damage has already occured it prevents more damage from happening.

Re: WHAT IS...........j&s safeguard (Charlie)
it's reactive instead of proactive.
it tells you when you are pinging and you fix it, you don't want to just let it correct, because the motor DOES still ping for a few cycles, and then the J&S pulls timing and slowly adds it back, and if it pings again it pulls timing again, etc...

i really wanted to get one a week ago but then i got alcohol injection happy.

Re: WHAT IS...........j&s safeguard (int3gra)
I have one and I love it. It gives me confidence to mess around with fuel and ignition settings and not have to count on my ear and right foot to save my engine from too aggressive settings.
Plus, when I'm tuning at the dragstrip, guess where detonation first starts when I've gone too lean or advanced ignition too much? 4th gear, 7000RPM, WOT. No freaking way are you going to hear detonation with all that noise.
There are two models, Classic and Ultra. The classic is just the monitor and retard unit. The ultra has all kinds of features like proactive retard that you can set with rpm and boost threshholds and a MAP signal limiter to let stock ECU's see the true MAP signal until boost is reached.

Re: WHAT IS...........j&s safeguard (Holden)
Greg said it perfectly. I had the Ultra before Hondata, and I now have a Classic with Hondata. You sure have done a 180 with your stance on the J&S, Greg.
