at what horsepower rating do heads start lifting?
b-series motors. thanks
reason being, i have some arp headstuds and a car that will dyno in the 300hp area, but i dont wanna install them if i dont need to.

You will be fine at 300hp being that the motor is healthy and tuned correctly.

They just has an article in last months "import tuner"-i believe it was import tuner..but anyhow..ARP did this write up on heand studs/bolt etc...ARP stated that if you are increasing power 30-40% of stock...use them.

I'm not saying they are wrong necessarily, but of course ARP would say that...they're trying to sell their stuff.

my d series lifted at 5psi @ 160whp
but combustion area and timing have alot more to do with it though.
Arp's and new gasket are in now.

mileage at 80k-90k right now..compression numbers were ok..180ish across the board. no oil leaks. im a bit just a bit paranoid i guess. thanks again

i think its different for everysetup and motor, there is alot of variables that go into that stuff. No one can give u a hp number, its like asking where will my stock rods break? some have broken at like 350whp on b series, while others have been takin to 500+.
detonation is a big cause in headlift

$100 or so is well worth the sleep you'll get at night knowing that the head won't lift.
