Default What head gasket's are you running w/your turbo?

I was wondering what the best head gasket was for turbo setups. I blew my factory head gasket and was trying to figure out which one to replace it with. I hear cometic are good. Anything else???

Also, I am running JE 8.5:1 pistons. I'll be boosting 12-15lbs. Would the 2 piece Spoon headgasket work well with my setup, or will the compression be raised too much for FI?

Thanks.

about a year ago a lot of the big name racers ran that headgasket. im not sure what they're running now, or why they were running it in the first place, but something tells me that it has to do with the fact that they've decked/milled their heads one too many times.

anyone know what's the deal with this?

I run it because my compression is crazy for turbo. B18C5 bottom end and B18C1 head compression ratio is like 11:1 plus my head was milled one time. This headgasket drops compression a little over 1 point. People used this gasket a lot because unlike other gasket designs which are a solid piece sandwiched between the top and bottom layer of the stock gasket, the Blitz has multiple layers that make it thick, so I guess the sealing is better.

How did you figure out that the 3mm headgasket dropped your compression 1 pt? Did you use a formula to figure it out? I'm asking becuase I have the HKS headgasket which is 2.6mm and I've tried figuring out the compression with various calculators on the web, but I keep getting different answers.

Well this is what we guesstimated. InlinePRO and a local machine shop. I don't know the exact drop but thats what they came up with. The HKS gasket supposibly drops about .8. At least thats what I was told.

InlinePRO
http://www.inlinepro.com

They make a O-ringed headgasket thats better than a stock headgasket.

realistically, if your car is tuned right, a stock headgasket should have no issues even at 25+ psi.

i worry about those other gaskets, even if they work as advertised (meaning that they in fact seal better) because if your motor is running foul, all that cylinder pressure has to go somewhere, and i would rather have the headgasket act as a "fuse" instead of having all that cylinder pressure push the block/rods to pieces.

just a thought.

You think a headgasket is gonna stop detonation? Try again, I have not seen a headgasket just blow when something goes boom. Its all in the tuning.

having excessive cylinder pressure doesn't necessarily mean you're detonating. i've seen cases where only the head gasket blows, and everything else is okay.

Having excessive cylinder pressure? What do you mean by this? Too much boost? If you have a built engine that can handle that much pressure then you need something better than a stock headgasket to seal it. Main cause of headgasket failure is due to overheating and blowing the headgasket.

670whp, stock head gasket. Need you know anymore? OEM honda gaskets are extremely strong, and when tuned properly will last and hold 30+ psi. If you're blowing metal head gaskets, you have serious issues. I would rather, however, blow a gasket than anything else.

Only reason I'm not using a OEM head gasket for my car is that I am running a bored GSR block, and no OEM gasket will work. So I went with Cometic, stock thickness

most everyone now runs cometic.

A word to the wise -- never touch an SCE gasket. never ever ever. They will not owrk with open deck blocks, keep the copper for closed deck blocks.

The cometics have double orings built into the gasket. As earl said, cometics work.

SCE copper with O-rings, must change on a regular basis though so I dont suggest any street cars use them.

Exactly how mine blew!!!

So it's either stock or the cometic. Where do I get a cometic gasket and what do they cost for a b18b. Thanks for all the help!!!
