Stock, Stock Stock Stock.... I can't stress it enough. If you need a stock gasket bored out to your bore size, we can do that now, so hit us up. Thanks.

If you can, I always suggest STOCK. Some people have luck with the Cometic, some don't. Almost everyone I know that runs stock, works without a prob. But you MUST copper spray both sides of any gasket before installing it on a Golden Eagle Mfg. block.

i think the problem most peoiple are having vince is not spraying the gasket with copper srpay i mean its only 3 bucks a can it ssimple advice... too. I just like the cometic iwth the fire ring seams to hold just tad bit longer than stock.. especailly on blocks that are decked too much

Vince,

When you want to use a stock gasket on a large bore block, how much extra do you bore the gasket?

Say you are running an 85mm piston bore, how large should the gasket be bored to? 85.5mm?

Yeah, I thought the standard sized Cometic was as good or better than stock.

On the avarage, we stay about .010" or 1/4 mm larger than the bore. We have all sizes, from 82, 83, 83.5, 84, 84.5, 85, 86 and 87 mm for B-series. The cometic gasket, from my experiences, does not hold up as well as the stock one. Some people may say otherwise, but these are MY experiences.

Vince,

I always thought that with OEM and OEM "style" gasket to NOT use copper spray. Copper spray only with a copper head gasket. Is this false?

Also - I DO know that DO NOT use an OEM or OEM "style" gasket with 0-rings. And that's from personal experience.

I copper spray every gasket, OEM or otherwise. It just helps!!

ALso, in every motor I have ever built ( street or full race ) where the motor is to be boosted, I have used an OEM gasket with Copper o-ring in the block. Never have I had a problem, never!!! The OEM gasket says not to use anything on it, but I have found that the copper spray really works well. Also, hylomar works pretty good too.

Well, i have a 84mm non-oringed block, because you guys said there wouldn't be enough room to have o-ring. I called about 2 weeks ago and Ted recommended the cometic to me, not the HP one but the regular one. Would this work? He didn't say anything about having bored out stock gaskets. I don't want my hg to leak or not seal properly so please let me know. Thanks Paul

Last week, we did not have stock overbored gaskets for sale. We finally finished the progams and testing and brought them out this week. They work great. And, like I said before, some people have no problems with the Cometic. Paul, just spray down the gasket and torque the headstuds, using the ARP moly, to 78 ft. lbs. I know this sounds scary, but trust me, it works. Let me know.

Golden Eagle Mfg block (84.5) AND 0-ring + Cometic headgasket = DID not seal.

Not only did it cost me money for a new head gasket ... but ... money to get the car towed 4 hrs down south. Long story - don't ask.

My situation is just like BlackGSR.. i have a O-Ringed GE block bored out 84mm. I was running a cometic headgasket and came to realize it wasnt sealing properly. At first my coolant hoses ballooned up. I heard when they get old they do that, so no problem. I replaced them.. Then i noticed that they were always rock hard, so from there i realized that exhaust was going into the coolant system. Now from what im reading looks like lots of ppl have been having the same problems. Unfortunatley this past weekend i was driving home and the car left me stranded on the highway. Towing was a biatch! I waited till 4am for the tow truck.. then when the flat bed came.. the ripped off my rear bumper loading up. When i got home and tore the motor apart.. I found out i spun the number 4 rod bearing. Does anyone out there think this could be from the headgasket leaking?? And maybe coolant got into the oil and caused it to spin?? Ive also heard GE has had problems with the sleeves sealing.. Maybe coolant could have escaped from where it was put together???

O.K. Golden Eagle Mfg. does not have any problems sealing our blocks. If there is ever a problem, we will fix OUR work free of charge if determined that it is in fact our fault. Also, if a headgasket leaks, there must be something else wrong. I keep telling you guys, I never have problems sealing up a block when I put it together!!! I have tons of people worldwide that do not have any problems, so 9 out of 10 times, it is all user error. We do have a phone number, and with every block we send out there is a piece of paper in there that says " If you should ever have a problem with our product, questions, or would like to give your input or comments on something, please feel free to do so by calling (909) 592 - 4311......." Please everyone, if you have a problem, address it to us personally. We will try to help you out. We pride ourselves on our products and to date, our blocks have been A+++++ in our books and of many others. We WILL help. Call us!!!

Vince,

When you bore stock gaskets, do you restamp the compression ring on the gasket for the larger bore? It's just something that I've heard some people do.

I agree with Vince completely on this one. We run a stock bored out headgasket with copper spray and copper orings. We never have headgasket problems.

Per this thread:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=297092

With a street/strip car (500-600 hp in track form) a step-decked GE block with a cometic 84.5mm sprayed with copper hg spray should hold? what would you guys recommend may be a little more torque on the arp's? say 80ftlbs? I dont want to O-ring it if I dont have to.
Thanks

Oversized stock headgaskets are $89. You must specify an exact bore size. Also, spray the copper spray on both sides of the gasket DO NOT SEPARATE THE LAYERS! Just hang the gasket from something and spray both sides until there is an even coat of copper everywhere. Try to avoid making the copper run. 3-4 light coats usually does the trick.
