What is the Gas Milage for your Daily Driven Boosted Car?
Just curious but what is the Gas Milage for your Daily Driven Boosted Car?
I want to compare my car with others. I had my car tuned by 2 different Shops. One is a very well Known Shop in Ny and the other is a Fairly New Shop. I thought that the (first) well known shop was going to do a great job but after getting my car re-tuned I noticed that I actually had a Horrible Tune.
Please indicate your Gas Milage:
1) Before and After Tuning
2) City and Highway Milage
3) Horsepower Figures
4) Add any other information you feel is important
I'll post my reply and experience later today.
Thanks HT

your mileage can be like stock or even better depending on both tune and how your drive.

ding ding.
you drive like a maniac and your mileage will suffer like no other. Drive like a granny and you'll hardly ever notice a difference.
I "can" get 330 miles on a full tank just like when the car was stock when I go from atlanta to charleston. Bad thing is I always end up running up on a pack of cars trucking down the interstate at 100 and drop into the group to make better time.
Having to spool up after the group gets slowed down takes its toll on my gas tank

I average about 30-33 mpg.. really it doesn't matter how I drive.. Within reason that is. Make sure your tune did not disable the O2 sensor...

Re: What is the Gas Milage for your Daily Driven Boosted Car? (underpressure02)
before tuning on the v-afc hack i got like 20-25 maybe...pretty shitty. after hondata and new setup i got like 27-30 then they released an update at some point in time and the tune changed and i get like 32+ now. I love it, i'm better than stock most of the time even if i do punch it every once in awhile. prolly be even better if i wasn't crusing at 4.5k on the highway, damn short 5th gsr gear.

Re: What is the Gas Milage for your Daily Driven Boosted Car? (Killer_B)
i first got my car dyno tuned at DRT in NY. it was tuned for WOT and it made decent power so i was happy with it. 2 months down the line i noticed that my gas milage was horrible. i thought it was natural since the car is turbo. i did a little research and realized that my gas milage doesn't have to suffer if i want the car to perform well. at this time i was getting 9mpg whether i would beat on the car or not. the first tune had an a/f ratio in the low 10's. my plugs would Foul out within 1 week of normal driving or 1 day at the track (average 3-4passes). this **** was getting expensive! i can't afford this car with these gas prices so i considered getting the car re-tuned.
i thought something has to give.
just recently i got it re-tuned at API in Yonkers, NY. they took their time and tuned the partial throttle Map as well as the WOT Map. before i would have to rev the car at 2k rpm when i started it in the morning just so that it would stay on becuz of the amount of fuel it was dumping. after the re-tune the car runs perfectly fine on its own when i start it. it feels much torquier, smoother and clean over all. to top it off, the car made 30hp more than the previous tune. we also set the vtec to 4,200rpm to make up for a gap in the power band. before it was set at 5,500rpm which felt GREAT when Vtec kicked in but below Vtec it was a Pig. its kind of an illustion becuz the car felt great as soon as Vtec hit. now the entire power band is strong.
i recently drove to FL and averaged 27mpg. my highway milage is better than that but my car was ABSOLUTELY full. it had at least an extra 300 pounds and it still managed to get 27mph. City/everyday driving, i get 22mpg.
the moral of my story/write up. if you have a Turbo, Daily Driver, Get your car tuned Properly. it pays in the long run.
btw, the Video in my sig (below) was with my OLD/Crappy Program so i'm anixous to get to the track with the new program. it should perform a bit better being that i have more Mid-Range torque.

Stock maps are tuned to stoich. This isn't necessarily the best gas mileage. Running a car in most NA parts of the VE table at 15.0 - 15.3 AFRs will NOT hurt the engine and give you much better gas mileage. It will however increase NOx levels (bad for the environment).
There is a trade off with everything, eh?
BTW...before (stock) ~22-24 mpg.
Tuned on TurboEdit...~28-32 mpg.

Re: What is the Gas Milage for your Daily Driven Boosted Car? (Killer_B)
right now average of 23.5mpg
includes the following:
- warming up the car
- somewhat heavy foot on gas pedal
- running on cold winter maps
- city and hwy driving
- 260whp
- rpm usually stay above 3.5-3.8K
haven't had a chance to see the best milage i can get while light driving.

I got 25mpg combo city/hwy this week to and from work.
This is with a stock B16, DRAG kit, inline fuel pump, intank walbro 255, and FMU. I also averaged exactly 30mpg on my trip to Florida which was 850 miles one way.

4.5k on the highway? That's like 90mph in a gsr. I got horrible gas milage in my boosted GSR, untuned, and always flooring it. Maybe 15mpg. That was with the SMC fuel contorller and dsm450cc injectors.

i seem to do better wiht the turbo due to me not having to floor it as much to get it to move
i do drive under boost alot
under boost my a/f #s are in the 11's
normal driving mid 14's
would be interesting to see what a/f #s are with stock ecu no boost normal driving
