I know a smaller exhaust will make a turbo spool faster but it dont get much smaller then what you already have! A manual boost controller made mine spool 5-600 rpm sooner.

Gee, and you're considered knowledgable?
No wonder there's so many mis-informed people on this site.
Anyways I hope you were joking...
Go with a full 3" exhaust. Spool shouldn't be that bad for you, but if you want it to be faster you could always go with a smaller A/R.

Re: What can i do to make my turbo spooling faster (nd_styles)
"For turbo cars, you throw all that out the window. You want the exhaust velocity to be high upstream of the turbine (i.e. in the header). You'll notice that primaries of turbo headers are smaller diameter than those of an n/a car of two-thirds the horsepower. The idea is to get the exhaust velocity up quickly, to get the turbo spooling as early as possible. Here, getting the boost up early is a much more effective way to torque than playing with tuned primary lengths and scavenging. The scavenging effects are small compared to what you'd get if you just got boost sooner instead. You have a turbo; you want boost. Just don't go so small on the header's primary diameter that you choke off the high end. " too quote an engineer from garrett.
CLIFFS = smaller headers are good, 3" exhaust might not be your best fit. whats your turbine size? power output?

Wow yur complaining about the spool time of a t3??? I love where my turbo spools and its a t3 60 trim on a d series, The turbo would be spooling around 3000 rpms for you, I dont know how much better ya want unless you go with a garrett t20, u will practically spool at idle

I agree TravSi, I see tons of posts on here about "my t25 or T3 doesn't spool fast enough". This can mean only one thing. these people aren't making enough power to learn to love a little boost delay so they they can get traction . Also these are 4cyl that are well under 2L. what the hell do you expect below 4 grand anyway? its a ****** honda, if you didn't have the turbo you would not make any real power until 6K anyway!
No matter what people say I'm confident that your average T25 is just not big enough for a 1.6 sohc. I have done it myself and a properly sized T3 IS the anwser I was looking for.

in addition to your point, good luck /w traction on a FWD turbo that spools ungodly quick.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Lag = Traction Control!!!!

Yes, you are all right,
i know that i (we) have engines with little displacement and withour a turbo we would get power at 6k but,
yesterday my fried get his hew VW (1,8 Liter 225 Hp Stock Turbo) he has a K04 Turbo from KKK and this ******* thing kicks in at about 1800rpm! thats crazy ;-) ok 1800 is a bit stupid for a b16 engine but maybe 2000-2500 would be nice... even better then 3000-3500 or what do you think?

well, you could always get a decent boost controller, and run a little less PSI in 1st and 2nd, still get a little power out of it, but you wont be wheel hoppin like you got hydraulics.

I hate that argument. My **** doesn't spool till like 4.5k in 1st, zero traction when it does. Second it's the same ****. (t3, stock D). What's the benefit of having a laggy *** ******* turbo when your tires are going to break loose ANYWAYS? I'd rather have the ******* thing spooled @ 2500 and use my right FOOT as traction control....
