Re: what is the best way to measure air/fuel? (B17aTURBO)
EGT guage for around $150 or you could spring for a wideband for $300
personally I would go for the wideband (AEM or techedge)
In Jan. AEM is releasing the wideband in the form of the autometer guage with the controller built in, So im waiting for that....and money.

Considering dumping my Tech Edge 1.5 for one. A friend has the Innovative unit, I'm waiting for him to install it so I can check it out first hand.

Just to clarify....and not to spread misinformation AEM is not selling a gauge that is "int he form of" an autometer af gauge. It simply has a radial type of display along with numeral value.
To answer the original posters question.
Best way is an aftermarket afr setup like FJO, Motec, AEM--their display isnt available yet so unless you run any type of standalone it will do you no good.

I have the Techedge 1.5 and am not all that wild about it. The only thing I really don't like is that you have to adjust it with little rotary ***** and kind of worry that they will end up going out of calibratioin with it staying in the car all the time.

That's one of my major concerns with the 1.5. I've also had quite a bit of trouble logging rpm with the 1.5, which has been very annoying.

These guys sell the FJO wideband tuning and datalogging kit. The prices on their website are in Canadian.
Here is a link to their standalone section:

Here is a link to their engine management section where you can find the FJO kit:

Re: what is the best way to measure air/fuel? (B17aTURBO)
I have a PLX w/b and a buddy has their kit that converts the AutoMeter a/f to a true wideband display. It displays each LED = 0.5 difference a/f...
http://plxdevices.com/
finally w/b's prices are getting resonable, Thanks VW..

Re: what is the best way to measure air/fuel? (double0Si)
I like the PLX idea, although I would want to change some of the green bulbs to yellow or red
B/C if you want a 11.5 as the a/f ratio then it might be hard to see the difference since 11.5 and like 13.5 have the same color bulb.
make sense?

The techedge 2.0 kit is a huge step forward. Its 100% software controlled, and from my experience very acurate. Also, you can use a $20 palm to datalog.
