What is the best to use for turbo? K24 or k20?
Hey guys, I really confused now, everybody saying something else, please your opinions!😑
I have 3 engines in my garage:
1. K24a3
2. K20a (CRV)
3. K20a2
I want one of them to use in my turbo project (going to 600hp with ar .80 at .68 turbo, I'm wondering what to use..
I heard that they are very strong engines, so even don't need to for forced them , also have k20a2 Complete head, and also k20a2 cams and rockers, I was thinking to use the k24 with the k20a2 cams and rockers, but then I was thinking what going to be the best comp ratio for that , to use the stock Pistons ? Is the comp ratio is optimal for my turbo setup? Or I need lower comp? Or maybe higher comp with lower boost ? I also know that the k24 don't love high revs (8500 max)... So...
Or to use the k20a (CRV) with the k20a2 complete head, with the stock pistons and stock rods? And use the k20a2 oil pump...
Or to use the k20a2 engine
So I'm really confuse...
Want your opinion , from your experience what is the best to go with?
Thanks.
Tal.

K24s have sleeve problems above 500whp, and that is a lot of torque for a fwd. What are you using the car for?

The reliability of a high hp stock engine is going to depend largely on the tune, maintenance schedule, and the condition of the engine to start with.

If you want to use a stock engine, use a K20A2 or K20Z1.
I have tuned (and personally owned) several stock-block K20's to power levels ranging from 600whp to almost 800whp. I don't recommend running the stock rods to 800whp/500wtq, they tend to snap there.
What are your goals for the car? What exact turbo do you plan on using? What fuels are available to you? Do you have access to a competent tuner?

I'm attempting to go for 800hp MAX, I can use methanol or toluene with the fuel for higher spark map, actually I'm going to tune my AEM myself I already did it couple times before, the turbo is T4 ar 0.80 ar 0.68 I'm going to upgrade Pistons and rods, I also been thinking to use the darton mid sleeve, but I understand here that it is not necessary...

The information you're giving me on the turbocharger is just the housing sizes; what are the wheels?
For that power level, you're absolutely going to want to build an engine. Both the K20 and K24 will do it, no problem, given you have the right parts combination (turbo, manifolds, fuel system, etc). The stock sleeves are plenty strong for that power, too. I wouldn't bother sleeving either one anymore; save yourself money and send the block to CNCWerx for the CSS service and be happy.
A K24 will make more power with less boost (displacement is a wonderful thing, provided you have a driveline to support it).
If you're going to drive the car on the street (or even if you plan on enjoying driving the car), don't even consider the stupid locked VTEC options ("VTEC Killer," brooo). It makes the car idle and drive like **** at slow engine speeds and low loads. You'll make more power under the curve with a proper low-cam/high-cam setup.
Also, don't try to make 800whp on pump gas with methanol or toluene. Use a dedicated race fuel like VP C16 or Q16, or better yet, anything ethanol-based. The risks aren't worth the returns, stick with what is simple and effective, unless you like spending money.

The only catch is he's in Israel. Probably not even remotely cost effective to ship a block to the states for the CSS process. I don't know if they have a European provider yet. It would probably be easier to find a sleeves block where he is.

No it would be easiest to have a European supplier sleeve a block at that point. In case you need to look at a map Europe is closer to Israel than the US lol.

Of course Europe it's closer, do you now some European suppliers? U.S. it's far but usually shipping is faster, don't ask me why! LOL

Sorry, mainly only the UK, Australia, and Canada. Nothing in central/eastern Europe. I remember a shop I had dealt with in Greece for some Mitsubishi projects, but don't know if its worth that, or just sending to the U.S. like most other teams do for that kind of stuff.

All of that places are very close to Israel, but the shipping to USA is much more faster because there is a lot of cargo is moving to USA and from Israel.
So I think that USA is the best opportunity.
