Welded diff?
 

I heard someone talking about this i was just wondering if anyone had any insight i have never really heard of it on front wheel drive cars. I know a few people that welded their rear end.

basically its a locker kinda like a spool. good thing about it is it will give u the best traction possible at the track or on the street i guess. bad thing is u cant turn well at all with it, and, if u break an axle going down the track its gonna put u straight into the wall. be careful in ur decision. good luck.

haha, welding the diff is old school stuff. my grampa is doing that on his turbocharged rampage.

Old school as in its proven to be a good thing to do?

ive know lots of domestic guys or guys that run 4x4 trucks that do this, but in a FWD car i would probably stay away

I have a welded diff in my car and it works great.. Perfect traction and you only have problems turning if your going at a really slow speed while taking a sharp turn.. I wouldnt do it for an everyday driver but it does work..

I would think that if your holding on to the wheel good enought that you should be fine, its the same as a spool.. Has anyone had a problem with breaking an axle with a spool/welded diff and hit the wall?

Might as well try it its d series anyways tranys a dime a dozen

i dont know if it has happend to anybody before but if ur diff is welded and u snap an axle going down the track in a higher gear where ur acually up to speed it will put u into the wall. think about it, if u snap ur left axle, all ur power will immediatly shift to the right wheel, it will take a sharp left. its uncontrollable.
