Weary of LS turbo daily driver, advice?
Basically I got a 96 hatch with a 96 B18B in it, motor has about 120k on it and I have been toying with the idea of turbo, but being that I am just getting out of tech school I dont have money for another car to drive and I am slightly iffed about daily driving a turbo honda. I was looking at the peakboost kit(not top mount) and running about 10-12psi with a good tune, the motor is stock from oilpan to valvecover.
If I plan on going this route I will do a compression test to see how my numbers are and take it from there, would daily driving this car at my suggested boost levels be safe with a good tune or would I be better off saving my money for a newer car, which is my second plan, I am too indecisive
Any and all help is appreciated

it has nothing to do with boost, all about power levels.
first thing i would do is get the compression test done.
There's no sense in toying with the idea if your motor cant stand up to it.
I'd be all for you turboing your car, I did it and I havent looked back, I love it.
Ls's tend to turbo up to around 280 or so whp with stock internals, but thats pushing it.
A good safe amount of power would be around 250 to the wheels, and that woud be more than quick enough. That's my opinion on it anyway...
I hope that helps.

Thanks man, I've seen a few 300whp turbo LS's which would be my goal, or at least something close to that, unfortunately I dont know the trim or a/r that is offered with the peakboost kit, they only say T3/TO4E.

Re: (Cain Marko)
assuming the engine is i good mechanical order 250-300 is very do-able. a good tune is the most important thing. find a reputable tuner and enjoy.

Re: (quick_ls)
haha i daily drive my 84mm lsvtec turbo to and from work! all that it means is that if the car is done and tuned right, you will have no worries.
i put between 30 and 40k miles on a ls motor that had 185k when i swapped it in. on top of that, my wideband was off and i was running 13.5:1 boost afr instead of 11s like i thought. also, my tstat went when i was 100 miles from home, and drove the car on almost hot. when i started boost the compression was 185 and after all thiss **** and 30k mmiles it was about 165 and still even.
ls motors are forgiving, so if u tune them right they will reallly last

Right now i am rocking a Daily LS-T I has over 155K on it. I threw a head gasket on it with stock bolts because i bought it as a shortblock.
I run it at 7psi on the street (12.8@106) and turn the boost up at the track my best is 11.88@121
The key to keeping this motor healthy is keeping the RPM's down dont rev it past 7k and it will last forever...in time you may need a head gasket (it will heat up for no reason)
Dont be shy of a bigger turbo it is better for your motor I run the 60-1 on my setup and its not into full boost till 5K so I can run all day around town and never get into boost but if i want it...its there
bigger the turbo the less boost you will need to achive your power goals

Havent dynoed yet but pushing 15 psi daily with built head 8k rpm. 6000+ miles no issues. well over 300whp right now and its tuned to 20 psi which every now and then i turn it up to. This is on a completely stock 120k miles LS bottom end .
As long as its a healthy motor and tuned properly the internals can handle pretty decent power. i tuned my car on Hondata s300 and my friend lsvtec with stock LS bottom end and he is also pushing over 300whp through the LS stock internals. Going for 400 on the new turbo set for his lsvtec.
Oh yeah and im on ebay turbo, ebay cast manifold, wg, bov, piping, intercooler. Extremely budget setup and it works very well.

Well I think I might just have to go this route haha, if I do I will get a new headgasket just to be on the safe side, would ARP headstuds be a good idea to prevent the head from lifting at all, just to be cautious?
Anyone know of any good tuners in the CT area? Hell I'd drive to Jeff Evans if I had to just to ensure I got a high quality tune.

i wouldnt take the head off unless it needs to come off. in that case its always a good idea to do headstuds, although basically unneccesarry

Hah I really want to, one of my buddies just got an LS swap and a turbo kit for a grand, the seller apparently just needed a few bucks for some crack y0!
Now I got competition, and I wanted to be the first kid in my town to do b-series turbo, I was the first b-series swapped eg and ek, now I just need the boost to go with it,

...What he said^^
I bought a B18a w/ 90,000 miles over a year ago. Since installing the turbo I've put 16,000 hard miles on it, 40+ passes at the track, round trip from Ohio to Florida, drive it about every day. I also had mine tuned by blundar, fairly mild setup, stock internals except for ARP headstuds, give or take 250 whp or so, but it's held up great.
