Water Temp Goes up 3/4
Hello everyone
I have a Turbo 99Si
Stock Internals
Log Manifold
Garrett t3 t4
1/2 Size Aluminum Radiator
12" Slim Push Fan [Wired correctly and pushes]
After a couple 3rd/4th Gear Pulls Temp Goes up
Datalog says 103Degrees Celsius
What is your Take guys

Do you have something to block off the other half where there is no radiator? The air will follow the path of least resistance, so this could be your problem.
Pic isn't from my car, but I feel like it shows the idea pretty good.

Re: Water Temp Goes up 3/4
check for air in the coolant system.
wrap your exhaust parts in heat wrap
try driving with the hood popped, but still latched
(see if this helps. If so, try lower under the hood temps somehow. I removed the weather stripping at the part of my hood where it meets the windshield.)
the head could be lifting. do you have ARP head studs torqued properly?
I had a similar problem when I was boosted with A/C compatible setup. I wasn't running so hot, but it was definitely higher than usual. it is around 180-190 now that I have a backdoor setup wrapped in heat shield wrapping. even with the crappy stock radiator it stays in tolerable levels.

this could be a number of problems, if it is only happening under boost then it could be headlift/head gasket problem. but i would try to tackle any smaller issues first. many of us have heating problems simply due to heat sink and low air flow to the radiator (IC is block up the grill).
first step is to always make sure there is no air in the system, make sure your rad cap and thermostat are working properly.
then i would pull the bumper off and see what happens, if temps get better then its most likely an air flow problem. get a better fan or get more direct air to the rad.
if that isnt working then turn to the headgasket/ head lift. luckily you are datalogging and can monitor it precisely. report back and let us know what happened

air bubbles in your coolant means your head gasket is leaking...or you still have air in the system....I would personally address the smaller stuff first before codemning it to a lifting head

Re: Water Temp Goes up 3/4
Ok
what happens
temp goes up and is hard to go back down
if it goes 100* C
i have to idle car to get at 97*
IF i cruze slow for 10mins it will stay at 100*

Air in the water system is bad because it doesn't allow the sensors to acurrately read the temperature to heat up the thermostat to open/turn the fan on/appropriately show the water temp on your gauge on the dash cluster.
Bleeding the system is pretty system. *search* if you are unsure.

what happens if you turn the heat on? does it drop temps more qucikly? did you pull the bumper off yet?
it sounds like an air flow issue since at speed you are not cooling off but at idle the fan starts to cool things down

Re: Water Temp Goes up 3/4
I removed the heater hoses because where i live. [caribbean]
have not try to remove bumper as yet
Do you think it would help to move the fan to behind the rad as a puller

generally, puller fans are more effecient than pushers but you need to make sure you have a quality fan regardless of its location. we need to decide if you just arent getting enough air flow or if you motor actually has a problem. so pull the bumper and report back

Re: Water Temp Goes up 3/4
pulled bumper tonight
was harder to heat up
so i but fan as a puller, and bumper back on
couple hard boosting, like 6-7 pulls and it goes up to 96 degrees
and is hard to cool it back down to 93

Re: Water Temp Goes up 3/4
Check your downpipe bolts. Had a problem like this before. I find my downpipe was loose so all air from hotside was going striaght to radiator.
