Default Current 2018 availability of the Water cooled Journal Bearing Garrett "50 trim"?

Does anyone know if they make a water cooled JB Garrett 50 trim? I thought I remembered seeing one at some point. Is it possible to retro fit a oil cooled only one into a water cooled version if so?

Why? Journal bearing turbos dont need water.

It all depends on the bearing design. If the turbo doesnt come with water ports it doesnt need them.

No need for water lines then, or find a turbo that includes them by default if your that paranoid. Whenever you go custom on something that doesn't come standard it ain't cheap

Eh, I remember the price was around $680 or something. I think it was a STC Garrett 50 trim setup. Not pocket change but nothing crazy pricey.

right but you were requesting to somehow modify it for the water ports which will increase the price and not at all necessary IMO

I see what you mean

I wasn't sure on how involved that would be if even possible.

just because the turbocharger doesn't necessarily have waterlines attached to it, doesn't mean that a bearing design is that much different from one that had them.

. Any cartridge can utilize the benefits of water lines in a water hammered chra. The reason why many of these less-expensive journal bearing turbos don't have a water jacket is not due to bearing design change, but simply because they allow the user to assume more risk when it comes to the use of the turbocharger for specific sporting events. It's a cost issue, plain and simple .

It's better to just pay to get the upgrade, than it is to retrofit a water jacket.. ( it can't really be done, anyway)

Was I correct in thinking that STC had the 50 trim water cooled Garrett?

They did. But not any longer. They phased it out along with the GT3251 and GT3255 that used a oil/water-cooled CHRA. Everything became streamlined in their line with the introduction of the Hunter turbo about 3-4 years ago.

I'll probably just drop the coin on a GT3076R and call it a day.

Hunter turbo will fit the bill.

50trim to gt30 is a jump in characteristics.

The GT3076R is an awesome turbo i used to run it and liked it....a lot. The Hunter would also be a good choice. You cant go wrong either way.

Seems "they" still do??? What gives? And I was right in thinking it was a $50 up charge. However STC is wanting $720 for a turbo you can get other places for $639 new. Why?

T3/T04E "50" trim Cast Turbocharger

"MSRP" on that turbo is actually in the upper $7s...most just don't sell it there. To be in the low $7s isn't abnormal. If they are the only ones offering it with a water cooled CHRA then you basically just pay what it costs if that is an option that you must have.
